Hi everyone! Today I’m finally back from Anime North and I have a super fun sunny summer read for you guys. Hidamari Sketch is a four-panel manga by Ume Aoki. I absolutely love four-panel comic strips because every set of four panels are a little laugh and all the panels are tied together with an overarching theme that allows for a lot of character and plot possibilities.
To be honest I was a little nervous giving Hidamari Sketch a try because Lucky Star and K-On are set so high on the bar of four-panel comic strips. However, I was thoroughly pleased by the chibi character renditions and art themed humour. The genre is slice of light, shojo and comedy. The characters introduced as of this volume are Yuno, Miyako, Hiro and Sae. Each of the four girls has their own distinctive personality and because they often clash in character it’s rather amusing (especially Miyako).
I breezed through volume 1 because it was so cute and fun to read. If you’re looking for a little laugh to brighten your day, why not give this manga a try?
Thank you so much for reading this quickie review! More to come soon!
