“The sky I’ve always gazed at… The sky which goes on to the sky you’re gazing at…”
The anime begins with a flash back into Tomoe Yoh’s past in Japan. Yoh, also known as also known as Henri Samuel Jean Aimee due to his French background, met Yahisa Tsukiko as kids. Through a chance encounter and a night of stargazing, they became friends. Present-day Henri is remembering those memories and thinking of Tsukiko (who is residing in a different country). As Henri arrives at his new school, he is told that the school was previously an all-boys school and only recently, admission has become co-ed but enrolees are still mostly male. AND THERE’S ONLY ONE FEMALE STUDENT!! Wow, talk about lucky…
“Well, you can see the sky from anywhere right? No matter how far apart you may be, you’re connected somehow…”
In Seigetsu Academy, there are six different departments: the Star-Read Department, Astronomy, Mythology, Space, Constellation and Wastern Astrology Department. Flashback! Since Yoh’s father has submitted his thesis to a academy in America and asks Henri if he wishes to enroll in the American academy. His dream is also to research astronomy like his father. He remembers Tsukiko and hopes to see her and tells his parents that he has something to do to do in Japan before he leaves. Henri has a few months to stay in Japan while his father’s thesis is being screened.
We’re finally introduced to present-day Tsukiko (who’s surrounded by really beautiful guys) and as Henri is introduced to the class, he recognizes Tsukiko and approaches her in class but she doesn’t remember him! And he reminds her of him…
The episode ends there and I’m soooo excited to see what happens next as well as who Tsukiko finally ends up with. The theme of astronomy and notion of stargazing adds to the classic elements of romance in this shojo and slice of life anime. The art is absolutely stunning especially the detail in each of the character designs. I am extremely impressed with the animation style and I can’t stop staring at Yoh’s eyes. *cue inner fangirl*
When I finish the anime and manga, I’ll be sure to do a comparison post! Thank you guys so much for reading. I’m still trying to recover from the crazy jet-lagged hours of being in Hong Kong but I’ll try my best to post new content every day!
What are you pondering today?
