A really hilarious and nostalgic first episode, to say the least. It was everything I expected, and also, surprisingly more. The aesthetics of the promotional posters DO NOT do the art and animation justice. The anime and art direction have really amazed me. Illya is SO KAWAII! I liked seeing a reprisal of fate stay night characters (especially Rin) and even hearing the mention of Lancer and Archer makes me excited to see where this anime is going to go.
Fate Stay Night and Fate Zero were pretty awesome and I think Fate Kaleid Liner Prisma Illya (aka KALMIA), really lives up to the expectations of fans and viewers. The wands, which are characters on their own, are positively humorous… to the point of annoyance–in Illya’s opinion, but charming nonetheless. I think Ruby, the pink wand, really has a lot of spunk.
I wonder if Rin’s going to take up Illya under her wing and train her to be a good magic girl. Also, I’m eagerly awaiting the other half of the main plot where Sapphire, the blue wand, chooses her new master.
If anything, I think this anime pokes fun at a few of the magic girl genre stereotypes and tropes as well as a parody of the Fate Stay Night series. Well, after all the dark fantasy and action of the Fate animes, this is a pretty hilarious twist for summer.
Let me know in the comments if you guys want me to avidly follow this one with recaps and review. I haven’t quite decided yet. Thank you so much for reading and I will continue to review new summer pilot episodes!
