Most hilarious anime this season! I kid you not, my first reaction after the credits started rolling was “THIS IS AWESOME! WHY AREN’T THERE MORE CREATIVE ANIMES LIKE THIS?!?!” And then… my fangirl quieted and was replaced by the logical reviewer. But don’t get me wrong, despite what I critique about this episode, I still think it’s pretty funny.
Life is dictated by choices… but when you’re presented with ABSOLUTE choices. THERE’S NO ESCAPE! My first impression of Kanade Amakusa (voiced by Toyonaga Toshiyuki) on first glance was that he’s a pretty cool average high-schooler… not so average after he ends up making a fool of himself in class due to his strange and rather tyrannical mental gift (LOL)
It’s your hilarious harem, slice-of-life, comedy, whacky romance anime of the season. After all, the full title Ore no Nounai Sentakushi ga, Gakuen Love Comedy wo Zenryoku de Jama Shiteiru literally translates into “My Mental Multiple-Choice Power is Completely Running My School Romantic Comedy.”
You can’t help but feel a little bad for Kanade throughout the episode. Though he gives us quite a few laughs throughout, he’s pretty much forced to do things he doesn’t want to do. If he doesn’t obey the absolute choices, he’s wracked with pain but if he does obey the absolute choices, he most of the time ends up putting himself through some… interesting ordeals. On the flipside, Kanade’s absolute choice mental gift seems like an entity all on its own. When Kanade goads the voice, throwing it in the voice’s face that he’s already taken off the shirt on the table, absolute choice isn’t satisfied with his actions and demands more of him. I question Kanade’s mental sanity.
The last choice he makes before the episode ends summons a cute girl from the sky, named Chocolate. Now, I see a lot of fandom over the forums online about Chocolate. She’s pretty cute; got the blonde hair, blue eyes, loli-look but I don’t know if I can sit through nine more episodes with that girl’s chest in my face every time we get a head-on shot. Now, usually I’m pretty okay with the fanservice but I mean, this girl’s proportions are so NOT proportioned. I mean, really, that’s not even trying to be subtle about the fanservice… nor is the way in which she landed on Kanade.
What do you guys think of this weird new anime world? You’ve got to really hold onto the suspension of disbelief and really take everything at face value shallow, slapstick comedy in order to get through a series like this. I think I’ll give the episode the benefit of the doubt to see where it’s going in episode 2 but I’ve already been disturbed by Kanade’s breakout superstar song in the previews. And for the love of all the feminists past and present, can someone give Chocolate a sweater or a proper shirt? I feel like the front of her dress is going to peel off her at any moment. /(=__=)\
Most amusing new character- Utage Douraku
For the record, anyone else enjoy the handstands of the opening sequence? (LOL)
