Really fantastic episode of Kyoukai no Kanata this week! The meaning of the title holds quite a lot of weight in the story and it seems like he big plot is slowly being set in motion.
Rating: 5/5 curiously excited clouds
I give this episode a full rating because of not only the character reveals and development but also the intensity of the action that’s building into the awaited night. During a period called the “lull” youmu are severely weakened and prey to many spirit warriors who are on the hunt. At the same time, the Spirit Warrior Association is making a move on Akihito, who being subject to the circumstances of the lull, becomes bedridden.
Sakura and Mirai almost become sisters now and it’s so adorable! I didn’t think Sakura would be included in the story after the reconciliation of her past in the last episode but I think Mirai could use some girl advice when it comes to her feelings for Akihito. What made this episode so productive and well rounded was the snapshot of each and every character regarding the oncoming lull… from main characters to completely off to the side supporting characters like Nina. At these crucial moments, we’re shown just how influential and powerful the Nase family is. It certainly knows more than the others; still, Mitsuki and Hiromi seem to be out of the loop of the upper Nase members and their intentions. Favourite moment must be when Hiromi saves Mitsuki from being attacked by Miroku ❤
Contrary to my previous hypotheses that the Name family might be in cohorts with the Spirit Warrior Association or acting as the baddies of the show, Izumi’s hidden agenda, or at least, part of her intentions are revealed when she goes to defend Akihito from Miroku who’s gone to take Akihito into custody. It’s even mentioned between Miroku and Mitsuki that Izumi saved Mirai from the retributions of the Inami clan regarding Yui’s death.
Having Sakura by Mirai’s side really drives Mirai’s character forward. Near the end of the episode when the girls are walking home from the convenience store, Sakura points out how much Mirai really worries about Akihito and though Mirai constantly says “How unpleasant,” Sakura’s even able to read into those little catch phrases to see if our moe heroine really means it. We leave off with Mirai running back to the studio to be with Akihito \>3</ Also, I’m eagerly waiting for the reveal of the youmu that’s “beyond the boundary,” and how Mirai will play a role in the final showdown.
I hope you guys liked this review and don’t forget to tune in next week for the next review of Kyoukai no Kanata because I’m super excited for the next part of the story!
