It’s nice that after all the initial chaos of the introductions to have us settled into the general rhythm of the plot. After the clash of east and west elements, Nobunaga has taken Da Vinci and Jeanne back to the palace with him. I thought the idea of tarot cards was just a side element but now it seems to be quite significant in the prophecy of Jeanne and Nobunaga’s fate. We’re introduced to some other characters as well, but just briefly – there’s Caesar, Brutus, Nell and Bianchi of the Western Planet, Nobukatsu and Ichihime (Nobunaga’s siblings) of the Eastern Planet.

There’s a lot of talk of fate and destiny in the background subtly placed in the dialogue. Nobunaga seems to be as carefree and lighthearted as his nickname suggests. He goes so far as to name the giant armour “The Fool” (which I really face-palmed at because of the horrible English pronunciations between both him and Jeanne). Nobunaga intends to use The Fool in order to win the battle against Takeda and later Uesugi and even Moru. The reveal of The Fool to the members of the palace seriously scare the crap out of everyone because of the sheer size of it, not to mention its menacing design. Major props to Satelight for the amazing animation of the mecha armour.

Shoutout to the Canadian education system for making me learn French for ten years. Jeanne and Da Vinci’s French dialogue is pretty amusing. When Jeanne sees Ichihime, she says “Elle est mignon,” meaning, “She’s cute.” I’m curious as to why Jeanne and Da Vinci know Nobunaga’s language but it doesn’t apply vice versa.

Stereo Dive Foundation’s ending song is a little too techno modern, in my opinion, for this anime. I expected something more medieval or feudal with maybe some pop rock undertones but the song captures the mecha elements of the show very well. As for the opening, anything by Minori Chihara is usually a hit with me. Can’t wait to see how this is all going to pan out. It doesn’t seem like a story that permits any filler and I just have the feeling that this is going to turn out into a really awesome anime. (I hope I’m not wrong )
