Is the order a rabbit?
I feel all the loli-loving anime otaku men cheer in exulted joy towards this show. It’s like, little colourful cute girls, dressed up as maids, in a café. And the café is called Rabbit café. I found it all very cute. And pretty moe. And amusing though somewhat exasperating at times bordering on grating.
The humour is pretty funny because these little girls are totally over exaggerating everything they’re doing so the most mundane things seem interesting because it’s done by a cute girl in a cute café. A girl touring the town sees a café called Rabbit café, and imagining that there are rabbits to pet inside, she goes inside for the sake of rabbits. Naturally, there are no rabbits in the rabbit café, except the rabbit that looks like a cat that sits on top of the waitress’s head. (Note: the rabbit has the voice of a middle-aged man)
This is why you should never openly explain the premise of an anime to anyone.
The way too excited air-head protagonist is Cocoa (who happens to be amazing at math) and the soft spoken waitress is Chino. Somehow Cocoa gets hired to help out at the café. When Cocoa is taken to the back room to change, she opens the closet and finds… a half-naked girl with purple pigtails holding a gun hiding in the closet. Chino returns with Cocoa’s uniform and pigtails is introduced as Lize. It’s a shame that the story and the girls’ personalities are so two dimensional because the character designs are very well designed and would make for some great cosplay. However, I did find Chino’s simple but blunt responses to be rather charming, she seems to be the most practical of them, despite always having the fluffy rabbit Tippy on her head (which I’m pretty sure is a cat!!!!)
I think you need a certain level of moe-loli love in order to get through this series. I found myself checking the run time constantly and fighting the urge to jump ahead because of the sandbox random wandering pace of the series. Cocoa ends up living with Chino at the end of the episode. But if you like slice of life sort of shows with really cute girls, you will enjoy this series. Cute girls in a cute café doing cute things… how much more cuteness can you take? Watch it for your favourite voice actresses as well. Thus far we’ve heard Ayane Sakura, Inori Minase and Risa Taneda with two more characters voiced by Maaya Uchida and Satomi Satou to come. This is one of those shows you either enjoy within its own genre, or you just walk away from, no harm no foul. Intense action and mainstream anime fans will want to veer away for something with more of a driven plot.
