Hello everyone, we’ve been a bit behind on the new episodes this week because I’ve been finishing my exams but we’re back!
Mahouka has been a bit stingy about explanations for the first two introductory episodes but luckily episode 3 provides quite a bit of information dump courtesy of Tatsuya after his two second simulation battle with vice president Hanzo. Tatsuya fired multiple singularity spells, three in consecutive that were calibrated to his Hanzo at the same time. He essentially generated a bunch of psion waves that shocked and violently confused Hanzo’s senses because a magic always draws on these waves to process spells. In order to pull this off, Tatsuya would have had to calcualate all the variables, duration, speed and intensity all at once which is absolutely amazing. He basically calculates what a CAD processes and calculates for a regular course 1 magician. Since the practical magic exam scores are determined by how fast you can create a spell, draw a sequence and how strongly you can execute it, Tatsuya’s abilities in analysis are sorely forgotten in this schooling system.
A-chan on student council instantly recognizes Tatsuya’ casting assistance device as the Silver Horn by Taurus Silver, the mysterious genius magic engineer at Four Leaves Technology. Tatsuya is a GENIUS but the school really doesn’t test in such a way that reflects his true abilities. Even Hanzo is completely convinced when he regains consciousness. He apologizes to Miyuki for calling her out on nepotism and the affair draws to a close.
It seems like Tatsuya’s stats are rising among his peers. He’s accepted on the student council disciplinary committee officially. He’s shown to a new and quite messy office. Tatsuya once again raises his concerns with the antagonism between the course 1 and 2 students. Mari introduces Tatsuya to Mayumi Sawaki and Koutaro Tatsumi on the student council and Tatsuya finds himself pretty surprised to see two accepting upperclassmen.
Back home, Miyuki asks her brother to reclibrate her CAD to increase personal combat variations which requires Miyuki’s full body scan. When Miyuki gets jealous of Tatsuya’s interactions with President Saegusa and Chairwomen Watanabe, she sends a psion wave at Tatsuya which knocks him out for a second (just a second) and then he reawakens and both act like nothing has really happened. Miyuki calls it her little prank and Tatsuya seems completely fine with it. The light novel does a lot more explaining of Tatsuya’s powers as well as Miyuki’s internal thoughts concerning her strong dispositions towards her brother.
Shifting gears, the episode takes us to Clubs Weeks where after Tatsuya saves Erika from some overly enthusiastic club members, they arrive at the gym where the Kendo Club an Kenjutsu Club have run into a little clash. We’re introduced to Mibu Sayaka, the beautiful and graceful Kendo girl and Takeaki Kirihara.
They fight and Mibu emerges victorious but Kirihara more or less ops out of the rules of the fight by invoking a sonic blade on Mibu. Tatsuya intervenes as a member of the Disciplinary Committee and everyone is SHOCKED that a weed could be THIS BADASS. Other members of the Kenjutsu club attack Tatsuya and he easily holds his own against them.
Right now we’re still within the range of the story covered by the manga and adapted fairly accurately from the light novel. I actually found the light novel a lot better with explanations especially at this part because of Miyuki’s added perspective to the narration as well as her thoughts later into the night that hint at the Shiba siblings’ back story. The animation for magic combat is looking solid in my opinion. The arc with the Kendo club is just about ready to go and it will either drag out fairly long like in the light novel or speed up in pacing so we’ll have to wait and see.
Hope you guys are enjoying Mahouka Koukou no Rettousei as much as I am and I will talk to you all soon!
