Tatsuya is intensely praised for his engineering skills and especially his new concept theory for Kitayama’s in Sharp Shooter. Even the engineers of Third High are impressed with the engineering styles that emerge from the players’s CADs. Yes, Tatsuya is brilliant and badass in every magical way. What else is new? Masaki, the Blood Prince even points out that the “mystery engineer” is way above the skills of a high school student.
At Honoka’s Battle Board event, Tatsuya hands his friends all a set of glasses. We watch Honoka speed through the race with Tatsuya’s strategy. Honoka cast an optical spell on the water’s surface to give herself a boost of a head start and emerges first with ease. Man what is it with these girls who are just falling for Tatsuya left and right?
In Yokohama, some higher-ups are closely following the results of the high school competitions. Wasn’t Third High supposed to be the front-runner for the Rookie competitions? Seems like they’ve been plotting to skew the results in the interest of business.
That night, Miyuki is waiting for Tatsuya in his room to talk about him turning down his name claim to the new magic concept theory that Shizuka was using at Sharp Shooter. We get more of the Shiba’s siblings back story and their tie to the Yotsuba Family. Although Tatsuya has the ability to beat the head of the family – their Aunt, he can’t subdue the rest of the family. Miyuki promises to stay by her brother’s side forever. Again. The family back story stuff in the plot was given really smooth transitions from main plot to back story and back to main plot again. I’m looking forward to more character reveals with the Shibas.
And the next day, finally, we get to the Ice Pillars competitions. Since Ice Pillars is pretty much a test of magic blasts, there isn’t a lot of moving around and part of the competition as a result turns into half a fashion show as well. As Honoka watches Tatsuya work on her CAD, she remembers how “beautiful” the magic sequence was on the day of the auditions – especially Tatsuya’s. The rest of the gang appears to cheer on Miyuki. WE FINALLY GET TO SEE MIYUKI IN BATTLE. AND SHE LOOKS ABSOLUTELY STUNNING IN HER KIMONO COSTUME. Miyuki opts to MELT the pillars with Inferno while strengthening her own with Niflheim and destroys them all in one blast.
That night, all the girls have flocked to Tatsuya’s side and his ever-growing popularity is definitely rubbing the other guys the wrong way. Morisaki is pretty peeved at Tatsuya for going against the Blooms > Weeds stereotype but seriously, that’s pretty immature. Supporting characters in Mahouka are constantly lacking any depth to their personalities and motivations. At least we got some reasoning behind Honoka’s infatuation with Tatsuya.
After the credits, Masaki and Kichijoji of Third High finally meet the Shiba siblings and DAYUM I can’t wait to see them face off as magicians. Although the Ice Pillars battle didn’t last too long with Miyuki, we got to see her show her badass talents as a magician and to be honest I’m just excited to see Third High and First High face off in all competitions. The background work that those business men are doing is definitely going to add some conflict to the story. Judging by Tatsuya’s personality, he won’t be moved to take action until the sabotage directly connects to and affects Miyuki personally. When it comes to priorities, Tatsuya places his sister above all else so we’ll have to wait and see how the competition complicates and how he’ll choose to resolve it.
What are you pondering today?
