So if you haven’t been convinced yet, you’re probably convinced after today’s episode that these high school students are pretty freaking amazing. The Nine Schools Thesis Competition is coming up in which each high school chooses three people to write up a thesis and submit it. All these theories are then submitted into a comprehensive database upon presentation. All these up and coming magicians are REALLY bringing it in these school activities. Anything categorized as “high school” in this world clearly isn’t just regular cultural festival level – it’s all pretty high class and isn’t at all confined to the high school setting. Much of it almost always ties us to another sub plot that’s government or magic-family related.
Suzune Ichihara will be leading and primarily writing for the First High team and Tatsuya has been chosen as one of the secondary writers on her team. Naturally the topic they’re researching hits home with Tatsuya which is what prompts him to join – the feasibility and technicalities of a gravity control-type magic sequence thermonuclear fusion reactor. SERIOUSLY. REGULAR HIGH SCHOOL KIDS USUALLY AREN’T RESEARCHING ABOUT THERMONUCLEAR MAGICS TO SOLVE ONE OF THE WORLD’S MOST UNSOLVABLE PUZZLES.
Everything happening in First High seems like it would be more acceptable if it was in a university setting… unexpectedly.
The Shiba siblings welcome a Ms. Sayuri Shiba, they’re step-mother, into the house. She’s come to ask Tatsuya to drop out of school and assist the family with their research but Tatsuya insists on staying with Miyuki to fulfill his duties to her as her guardian. She seems rather unstable when it comes to Tatsuya and can’t seem to keep her cool around him. After she asks him to analyze (and possibly duplicate) a relic for him, to which he sort complacently accepts, she storms off. He tails her… to make sure she’s not killed but some mysterious attackers WHO SPEAK PRETTY GOOD ENGLISH LOL. Tatsuya finds himself fatally shot, to which he recovers from – as instantly as he analyzes where the sniper is. Of course, there are baddies preying on the super expensive relic that Tatsuya has in his possession – one that can theoretically store magic sequences.
Now that all the important PLOT is over. Time to show off Miyuki’s new frilly apron as a way of “lightening” the mood in the episode. My mood was considerably lightened… how ‘bout yours?
What are you pondering today?
