This week’s episode of Book of Circus was something of a transition episode. While Joker has gone to see “Father,” and the other circus troops or more or less quarrelling with each other. Since Ciel is still out of commission due to his cold, it’s pretty difficult for him to move forward in his investigations.
A big gap between the circus troops lies first with Beast, who is in love with Joker and wants to elope with him to start a new life; and Doll, who’s too squeamish when it comes to murders and too trusting when it comes to people. Sebastian takes advantage of Beast in her emotional dispositions to seduce the answers he needs out of her. DAYUM BOY Sebastian REALLY. BRINGS. IT. when it comes to seduction.
Who knew blood and butlers and Daisuke Ono were such a sexy combo?
As a trade-off for the usual storyline and action, we’re given tons of Ciel’s back story and if you have never seen Black Butler in any way, shape or form, it’ll provide some nice background for you guys. Fans of the show on the other hand will be thrilled to see some of the best season 1 moments re-animated in action in Madam Red’s arc. We also get all of Ciel’s trademark Chess and strategy metaphors reiterated between him and Sebastian.
Sebastian’s “Yes, my Lord”s get better and better in each episode.
Sebastian brings Ciel back to the house and I really love how Sebastian carries Ciel just like a baby up the stairs. As much as Ciel would like to be a stuffy and grumpy little lord, he can’t deny how much he needs his butler to take care of him and how much he’s attached to Sebastian (It definitely helps that when Sebastian made the contract with Ciel, he took a similar visage to Ciel’s father).
The coat of arms belongs to one Baron Kelvin and the pair decide to head out again… except… Soma and Agni stop them right in their tracks. Soma can be described as… too loving at times. To the point of irritance. Especially for someone like Ciel who has no patience for busybodies. Agni also reprimands Sebastian for not better taking care of his master’s health. If you’ve read any of the manga, you’ll know that Agni is really the only HUMAN who can parry with Sebastian in combat and the only person Sebastian was ever somewhat interested in in his long long life as a demon.
I wish the anime focused more on the grim reapers because even though they’re simply waiting for the deaths to happen, since they know the deaths will come soon, it would really help some anime-only viewers touch base on how the story has been progressing. Still, I would wager that most Black Butler: Book of Circus viewers are diehard fans of the series and the characters and even with all that in mind, the series thus far has done an excellent job at juggling present plot developments and back story reveals. I’m so impressed with how Book of Circus has turned out thus far and I can’t wait to see them animate Book of Murder OVA which will cover the Phantomhive Manor Murder Arc which covers a smaller arc that takes place in the Phantomhive Manor where a bunch of main and supporting characters are trapped in the manor due to the weather and begin to witness mysterious murders. The characters attempt to investigate and it ends up being an entire ordeal that inspires a certain Victorian author’s stories…
