UGH I HATE BAZETTE. TAKE YOUR CARDS BUT LEAVE THE GIRLS ALONE. After using Fragarach on Bazette, she didn’t have to SLAM Miyu on the brick ground. GEEZ. I guess when it comes to Kuro, it’s a different story for the cards but I’m not enjoying the magic girl abuse…
Illya ends up including the Assassin card after Kuro distracts Bazette long enough and thank goodness Rin and Luvia have a backup plan when it comes to handling Bazette. Rin arrives right at the scene just after thaumaturgy is activated on Bazette’s neck – the same master-slave Maleficium spell used between Illya and Kuro. Rin is just brilliant… or is it Luvia? Let’s say both. Man, these mage battles…
Rin reveals a cube of ley lines absorbing mana with… AND EIGHTH CARD?!?? Good thing the Tohsaka have such political mage power in Fuyuki city. After all this leverage, Bazette decides to “compromise,” in other words, leave. Thus, the girls are left with half the cards they started out with.
Seems like a CRAZY long night… and finally after everything is over, our favourite Einzbern twins return homeeeeee. Well if life and death battles don’t bond girls, I don’t know what does…
The eight card brings us to a possibility of a season three – that and there IS more to the manga than what’s going on so far. There are only ten episodes in season two so this series is finishing a bit shorter than the other ones. It’s SO STRANGE to see Rin and Luvia GET ALONG and hold a decent conversation (well, despite having trust issues haha they make a pretty great team).
“We finally protected our normal life with our own hands. It’s okay to be proud of that, right Kuro?”
Our magic girls return to their regular school lives now and even though the final climactic scenes weren’t as dramatic as I expected it to be, I have to say, I’ll still really miss KALMIA. Both seasons seemed so short and season two felt more like the second book of a trilogy that branches further into the story and KALMIA world. What I love about magic girl shows, especially here with Illya and Miyu is that despite how dark things in the Fate world can get, our young characters never lose that sense of that charming innocence in their personalities. Illya just has the ability to generate positive energy in any situation and it’s nice to see Kuro transitioned into Illya’s life as well.
Luckily there is a HUGE chunk of previews after the final credit roll. The Edelfelt mansion is getting renovated and revamped as well and anime-only fans STILL don’t know Miyu’s back story BUT there is a pretty dramatic scene with Miyu and the eighth card showcased through Kuro’s thoughts… Oh right, we never did get to see how Caren Hortensia contributed to the season two plot… perhaps our sadistically lovely nurse will return in season three… or is it just called Part TWO of zwei?
The Fate world is so vast and flexible that it gives the stories a lot of space to flourish in different realms or parallel universes. I’m really excited that the next part of the story has been confirmed. The Kaleid Liner world just seems to combine both my childhood love for magic girl anime and my current obsession with the Fate franchise. I don’t have that many last thoughts on Fate Kaleid Liner season two except that I personally enjoyed season one more because it really emanated a classic magic girl atmosphere. Season two however does have its own great quirks in Kuro’s appearance and devotes a lot of time to building up Illya to be a much stronger character. Miyu is probably a bias of mine because she’s so badass and we get tons of great combat scenes with her. The animation and the battle choreography went far beyond what I expected from the series which is why I’m absolutely ecstatic for the new Fate/Stay Night series releasing in September.
I hope you guys enjoyed these Fate Kaleid Liner blog posts for the past ten weeks. It’s always super fun to review a magic girl anime and since Fate Kaleid Liner has just finished, the other summer season anime will be finishing shortly in the next two weeks… Fall anime previews to come! =D
