Wow I realized I skipped this episode by accident and ended up watching episode ten because I’m so familiar of the Kuroshitsuji manga but episode nine does some pretty big reveals with Sebastian and Ciel with the Joker.
Grell RETURNS WHOOO – When Grell sees Beast’s memories with Sebastian, Grell just FREAKS OUT and I am once again reminded of how Grell is the fangirls’ representative in this series. Hahaha he’s just the best sort of character that gives Kuroshitsuji that much needed comic relief.
The Book of Circus arc really illustrates the stark social inequalities between the rich and the poor, the haves and have-nots. The Joker is such a heartbreaking character. As much as we want to sympathize with our main characters, Ciel is that sort of anti-hero that doesn’t uphold things like justice or equality.
The appearance of the Doctor is pretty random but he ends up tying the characters back to the creepy plot where the prosthetics were not created with cattle bone… but THE BONES OF KIDNAPPED CHILDREN.
This Doctor is seriously messed up and he isn’t even fazed by any of the deaths around him. There is no greater joy in the series than seeing Ciel and Sebastian take down creeps like him… Sometimes I think Ciel views the world too harshly, other times, his jadedness is useful in the dirty business that the Phantomhive Mansion is responsible for.
When Ciel witnesses the Doctor put a little girl on the alter and prepare to stab her, Ciel’s horrific memories come back to haunt him and he has an asthma attack. Thank goodness Sebastian is here to calm Ciel down. Ciel gets pretty panicky here and ends up going against the Queen’s wishes to save the children and commands Sebastian to burn the entire mansion. If you’ve read the manga, the scene where Sebastian spreads the whirlwind of fire is just an AMAZING graphic and in the anime it’s just done STUNNINGLY well.
