“When the time comes, I’ll break my way in again. I’ll break my way in over and over again!” – Futaba
Kou and Futaba’s moment by the riverside is actually MY FAVOURITE moment in the first beginning chapters of Ao Haru Ride. It’s where Kou finally reveals his weakness to Futaba and actually decides to lean on her. I always get the feeling that Kou and Futaba’s roles are reversed. In usual shojo manga, it’s the guy who’s more romantically aggressive and the girl is on the receiving end of things. In Ao Haru Ride because of Kou and Futaba’s history, Futaba’s allowed to break those social barriers between males and females. Kou is also receptive enough that we’re treated to really intimate and sweet moments between the characters. Honestly this series turns usual shoujo on its head quite a bit.
Futaba’s feelings for Kou aren’t only selfishly adolescent and romantic. She genuinely wants what’s good for him and even encourages him to return home for dinner with his brother. YEAH THAT KIND OF SUPPORT IS LOVE. Futaba and Kou are a lot more realistic than your typical shoujo manga characters in this way. Man, I really wish Kou would started calling Futaba by her first name =.=”””””
“Running desperately to save me… even if she fails, over and over again…” – Kou
Chelsy’s, “I Will,” is probably one of the BEST insert songs here and it all ties beautifully together with the moon and the stars and the entire mood of the scene.
This time, for real, Kou’s listened to Futaba and decides to have dinner with Tanaka-sensei (CUTE! OMG). LOL Tanaka is just adorable omg I really like him with Murao more than Murao and Kominato.
I don’t blame Futaba and Kou for not knowing how to act around each other though cause it’s seriously awkward for their friendship now haha. Luckily it’s still casual within the group and it seems that Kou’s finally found the motivation to care and work hard in his studies again.
LOL okay so Kikuchi-kun (the guy from the library) is cute but he’s awkward and I hate his role in the manga.
OMG WHEN TANAKA CALLS MURAO BY HER FIRST NAME AND EVEN SAYS SHUU-CHAN. TOO FRIGGIN CUTE. ERMAHGOSH. DAMMIT TANAKA, YOU CAN’T BE SO CUTE TO HER. IT’S NOT HELPING HER GET OVER YOU.
The episode ends with the group deciding where to go for their summer vacation. It’s actually a really great spot to end the manga because Kou and Futaba have “basically” become a couple. The group of friends is finally comfortable and causal with one another and Futaba’s really grown in terms of putting herself out there with love and friendship. The anime here’s wrapped up at a great spot. I don’t need extra drama, I just want that Futaba X Kou happy ending omg. Ao Haru Ride is one of the great anime adaptations that came out exactly as fans expected. Nothing more and nothing less. I don’t even want a second season because it gets WAY too complex and painful in the manga. Really, I’m good with where this series has ended.
“From now on, I’m going to face straight forwad and walk ahead, steap by steap. Youth… a blue spring. With a stormy wind passing through my heart, on which to ride.” – Futaba
