Princess Yona finally starts to return back to normal after her initial episode of shellshock. Hak takes her to his home, Fuuga, where the Wind Tribe resides. Due to the distance between Fuuga and the kingdom, news of Hak and Yona reach the village before word of the king’s death does. Yona ends up pretending to be a failed court lady in training accompanying Hak.
On the political end of things, Soo-won has called together a meeting of the five tribes. They talk about keeping the king’s death and secret and crowning a new king in order to stave off civil war and foreign intrusion. Soo-won is naturally the next best choice. However, the Elder Mun-deok (Hak’s adopted father) definitely suspects something fishy with Soo-won. The coronation is thus postponed for three days.
Hak and Yona discover that the river’s dried up and Yona begins to experience a taste of the villager’s lives – how important the rivers are, how significant trade with the merchants is and just how difficult it is to live outside the palace. The other tribes begin to cut away resources from the Wind Tribe in order to pressure them to agree to Soo-won’s coronation. Though Haka and Mun-deok are adamant on not agreeing, how long will the fire tribe be able to last? Tae-yeon, Hak’s younger brother also needs medicine from the merchants in order to suppress his respiratory health issues.
Other than the really great plot developments, my favourite part of the episode was probably Hak and Mun-deok’s sake conversation at the end of the episode. Hak makes two requests. The first is for Mun-deok to approve Soo-won as the new king. Hak has also made the decision to leave and asks Mun-deok to allow Yona to live in the Wind Clan for the rest of her life. At first Mun-deok refuses a request from his son but Hak actually ends up ordering it from his position as Chief of the Wind Clan and Mun-deok must obey. Poor grandfather… it will kill him to see his grandson leave and take on such a burden but I’m so impressed with how loyal and steadfast character Hak has become.
We do know that Hak won’t be leaving alone from both the prologue of the series as well as the opening and ending credits. Hak and Yona will end up fleeing together and travelling far and wide. SO excited for next episode cause the previews just look AWESOME!
