There are no words to express how much I look forward to a show such as Shigatsu wa Kimi no Uso every week. The anime is doing a fantastic job of catching up with the manga series chapter per chapter, scene by scene and it’s all going splendidly.
While Kousei’s skipped out on his lesson to spend a day with Kaori, Seto-sensei is seriously lecturing Nagi about her current attitude towards her piano teacher. Nagi herself starts off as a bit of a brat definitely but not only is her tutorship under Kousei beneficial for Kousei’s maturity but also beneficial to Nagi as a fledgling musician.
Kaori ends up somehow luring Kousei back to school with the intention of retrieving her bag… though, it doesn’t seem like her bag was actually ever even there. It surprises me that she decides to spend so much time with Kousei despite her limited time outside the hospital. Kaori has a cute way of keeping Kousei around despite his shyness and awkwardness around her.
Dayum the Kaori x Kousei bicycle scene was so stereotypically shoujo and anime-like but I didn’t even mind because of how nostalgic and emotional it was for Kaori. Simple words that they exchange pull them a bit closer… and under the twinkling stars, Kousei doesn’t mind all that much being Watari’s substitute but he’s unable to ask Kaori the reason for her tears…
The episode intersperses Nagi and Kousei’s interactions throughout the half hour, opting to follow Nagi’s perspective to introduce the next potential stage for our characters…. This time, Kurumi Junior High’s school festival. Later, Nagi ends up running out of the house and away from Kousei’s lessons LOL poor Kousei and his awkward social skills. Clearly he needs to be just a little bit nicer to girls hahaha
Nagi ends up having one of the most unique perspectives and subplot stories in the series in my opinion. Her past with her “hero” and the decision to play music because her hero inspired her… that’ll all come up later and serves to flush out her character really well. For a junior high student, Nagi is pretty perceptive even when it comes to Kousei’s love life… how refreshing. She definitely also looks up to Kousei a bit…
“Just by being around, she transformed my monotone world into a colorful one… she’s really dazzling, a really strong person…” – Kousei
I REALLY want to see Kaori take to the stage again with the violin. Moreover, I wish to see the ultimate duet between Kousei and Kaori. Kaori gets pretty intense when she finds out that Kousei’s devoted time teaching rather than actually practicing. The heated exchange mirrors quite a bit of Kousei’s emotional past with his mother. Kaori herself bursts into tears because of her self-realization that she’s running out of time…
The episode ends like the chapter it follows, with Kaori’s ominous and dramatic quote… “Will you commit suicide with me?”
What are you pondering today?
