“I am Christine, the girl who yearns to go on stage at the opera house.” – Nagi
What a refreshing and stunning performance from our lovely young Nagi Aiza. In contrast to the professional-aspiring hardcore musicians we’ve seen thus far, Nagi plays for such personal reasons and her approach to music is so different from all the other pianists we’ve seen. I seriously have to say that I’m really impressed with Nagi’s growth as a characters in this sense. It’s really only been two to three episodes since she appeared in the series but she’s probably become one of my favourites on the show. Seriously, who isn’t a favourite of mine on this show?
The Miike and Nagi rivalry is also really adorable. Nice to see the younger generation of pianists looking up to Kousei as well hahaha I guess Nagi deserves a little gloating when it comes to her Arima-sensei.
After the performance, Kousei finds her on the hospital rooftop playing her keyboard with two kids. A scene similar to when he met her and oh so nostalgic.
“Making a violinist who can’t play the violin listen to this… It’s your fault that I miss it now.” – Kaori
Kousei asks Kaori to perform with him one more time after all this. Kaori is reluctant because of her condition but… she seems inspired by him to take up the violin once more with him and somehow, without any cheesy confessions of the sort, they come to a mutual understanding about each other’s feelings.
The series now is nearing perilously close to the updated manga and the end of its twenty-two episode long adaptation. Now whether the anime will succeed in adapting ALL the chapters of the manga (since it’s coming to an end soon) or creating an alternate ending (either happy or sad) is left to be determined. How much can you pack into four episodes at this point? I’m worried that we’ll get a tragic ending and yet also worried we’ll get all too happy go lucky ending packed with all the fun-filled niceties that doesn’t do justice to the emotional depth of the show. At this point the series will definitely end with a final performance from the two main characters BUT the lead-up to that will be intriguing to watch, especially because the show will have to cut so much of Tsubaki’s side plot of unrequited love and such.
If the show does opt to follow the manga point for point then perhaps we’ll end on a cliff-hanger but that seems unlikely unless there’s enough predicted manga material for another season. As much as don’t want to see Kaori die, the show will either showcase her death and the effects it has on Kousei or leave the series to end on a bittersweet happy ending note where we don’t get to see Kaori die but Kousei is making the most of the time left with her in the hospital every day. GAH the feels are coming, I just know it. All in all though, chapter thirty-six of the manga and episode eighteen of Shigatsu wa Kimi no Uso leaves us on a beautifully refreshing note.
“I’m greedy so… I’m just gonna dream again, of waltzing with you someday… I just might.” – Kaori
