I’m actually quite surprised the episode delved into so many different perspectives and cases regarding the collection process. Quite refreshingly, one old lady opts to have Mirabel’s operating system reinstalled anew with a completely different personality and no previous recollections. What happens to Giftias having new operating systems is, what Michiru claims, to be similar to amnesia in humans.
Tsukasa, much like his partner Isla, are both quite sensitive of this whole memory business. I really don’t understand why the memories cannot be replicated. It’s essentially replicating files inside the Giftia. However, whether the emotions can be replicated are a whole other story. Still though, this world is quite advanced for humans and Giftia, essentially androids to co-exist peacefully. Sure there are risks with the Giftia but so many benefits I suppose when you look at them like practical tools.
Well I’m getting a bit exasperated with Isla’s cuteness because she should technically be more professional about all this. Well, this is an anime sooooo we need an adorable Loli to just be adorable at times.
As a quick interlude, we see a human and a Giftia part during the terminal process. OMG Do NOT fall in love with your Giftia. SERIOUSLY. THIS IS A PLOT DEVICE WARNING. While Andie is cold and callous about ripping apart memories in Giftia, Tsukasa and Isla still feel quite turned off by it. I suppose it’s much more difficult to do your job when you emotionally get entangled with your clients but this more intimate collection process was revealed to be Kazuki’s suggestion way back when.
We get a really awkward encounter between terminal worker Eru and Giftia Andie when Andie doesn’t recognize Eru at all as friends. Poor Eru, having to reconstruct her friendship with Andie. Eru tells Tsukasa and Isla that Andie used to be Olivia, a Giftia who was retrieved years ago and had her OS replaced. Technically Andie isn’t Olivia any more, but Eru doesn’t seem to mind. Where do you frame identity with the Giftia then…? Eru ends up worked up over the carnival because of this weird Olivia/Andie crossover mix. SIGH. Tsukasa suggests taking Andie to the carnival as a possibility of sparking Olivia’s memories within her. Now THAT would be a ground-breaking discovery in the Giftia world. Eru then encourages Tsukasa to go and witness ordeal for himself.
I suppose Tsukasa and Isla are going to keep getting closer no matter what. Tsukasa will definitely take it more difficultly when Isla needs to be collected. I wonder if Tsukasa will suggest having Isla’s operating system replaced, or he just let her go? All these Isla and Tsukasa carnival moments… I am so gonna cry at the end of the episode. A lot going on in episode eight for sure.
Favourite moment: When the fireworks start and Tsukasa is running through the carnival looking for Isla OMG that background music. THEY ARE SO FALLING IN LOVE. MY FEELS. I CAN’T HANDLE THIS OMG. HELL YEAH!! GO FOR THE HAND-HOLDING TSUKASA!!!
Isla insists with Tsukasa that if she’s hurting him, she shouldn’t be his partner anymore (because her memories will also fade). Caught up, Tsukasa embraces Isla and claims he wants to be her partner forever AND CONFESSES HIS LOVE FOR HER OMG. THIS BUILD UP. GIEHOWIGEPGNEOKWGLNIKEWOHGIEWO YO ERU AND ANDIE CREEPING IN THE BACK, THAT’S AN INVASION OF PRIVACY. OMG ISLA’S REACTION. POOR BABY.
WELL WE ALL SEEM QUITE GOSSIPY AT THE OFFICE THIS MORNING CAUSE EVERYTHING GOES BACK TO NORMAL BUT TSUKASA IS TOTALLY DYING ON THE INSIDE CAUSE OF ISLA’S REACTION. AWWWW POOR TSUKASA.
OMG ISLA DON’T JUST EXPLAIN THE ENTIRE MOMENT TO MICHIRU POINT BLANK. THIS IS SO EMBARESSING. EVEN FOR ME AS A VIEWER THIS IS EMBARASSING.
It actually seems like EVERYONE is talking about the Isla and Tsukasa drama in the office. This is even a shocker for Kazuki.
Isla for one is concerned she that she hurt Tsukasa by rejecting him in the heat of the confusion and panic of the moment. Michiru suggests Isla live away from Tsukasa for a few days for things to cool off between them. Tsukasa ends up staying with Michiru and Zack that night. Poor Isla though, she gets REEEALLL TRAUMATIZED staying with Eru for the night. MIchiru, in her weird way, ends up consoling Tsukasa in his situation and snaps him out of his shocked trance.
After everything that’s happened, Isla and Tsukasa just pretend to go back to normal. Still, there’s something there. Isla confessing how she feels around Tsukasa, to Michiru is sweet, though misplaced cause she should really be telling HIM up front. Tsukasa decides to stay away from Tsukasa because of her time limit, because she really only has one more month to live. Why start anything that will result in pain? SIGHHHH MORE SIGHHHS FOR THE COUPLE.
Tsukasa finds Michiru brooding outside over Isla’s lifespan. Despite Tsukasa’s pre-existing knowledge of Isla’s lifespan, despite the fact that Isla rejected Tsukasa, Tsukasa still wants to make memories with Isla. Till the last moment he wants to be Isla’s partner. In this scene, Tsukasa becomes a really admirable protagonist despite the mundaneness of his personality up till now.
Okay so this post was more of a rant than a review but I have SOOOO many feels and comments to get out about this series. I just know I’ll cry at the end of the season. I just know it. Ugh.
What are you pondering today?
