“In the past, in my world, none were extraneous… No matter who one was, one’s life held significance.” – Gilgamesh
This week’s episode of Fate is pretty straightforward, seeing as the most complex part of the Unlimited Blade Works route, regarding Archer, has concluded. Rin is now supplying mana to two individuals. The main trio re-group for the final battle at Ryudou Temple. The only real issue is that Saber can only use her noble phantasm once due to the limited supply of mana.
Naturally things never go as planned. While Saber attempts to charge the entrance of Ryudou Temple, she is confronted by a Servant whom EVERYONE has already forgotten about. Assassin is still alive as a result of being summoned as a fake servant, tethered to the temple as an anchor. The two duel.
Meanwhile, Gilgamesh surprises Rin and Shirou who are about to climb the Holy mess of muck and save Shinji. Shirou fights Gilgamesh while Rin trudges through the lake to save Shinji. Yanking him out of the mass of flesh is easy but the holy muck is not happy. Since Shinji, its core vessel has been removed, it seeks a replacement and we get to see just how powerful Gilgamesh can retaliate when a piece of the muck tries to go after him.
Gilgamesh is still pretty assured that he’ll win. The Holy Grail becomes more and more unstable as his battle with Shirou drags on. I am quite curious though if the Holy Grail muck really spread over Japan, would there be enough time to evacuate all the world’s population before the muck reached other countries? Would mages have to come into the open and make peace with government officials to stop the Grail? And is it even possible to stop something as omnipotent and destructive as the grail?
I’ve been waiting for Shirou’s intense trace-ons since he fought Archer back then. Fully charged with Grade-A Tohsaka mana, Shirou endeavours to replicate each and every piece in Gilgamesh’s treasury in order to draw even in strength. It’ll take that and a lot more to defeat a servant like Gilgamesh.
Assassin’s death is also pretty emotionally charged, for someone who wasn’t an official servant nor directly connected to the main plot, he got a pretty great conclusion in this route. The animation were Saber dodges the Reverse Swallowtail is also hella epic.
I don’t know about you but it’s been a long time coming and I am REALLY excited for the FINAL FINAL FINAL finale of this series. Oh the hype continues…
What are you pondering today?
