Hotaru Tachibana is a girl who disguises herself as a boy at high school and goes about her every day business weeding out evil? Um. Weird premise to start with. For some reason or other Hotaru dresses up as a boy and has a really violent intolerance for injustices. Upon returning to her new apartment, she meets a mysterious playboy guys who happens to be her neighbour. That same day, Hotaru finds out that her best friend Kanae is broke after visiting a host club. Enraged, Hotaru storms into the club to demand justice for Kanae and runs into his playboy neighbour, Masamune Matsuouka. They have a bb gun battle over the entire conflict… rather than talking it properly. And in the end, Masamune recruits Hotaru onto his survival team and the series tells the story of how this weird team aims to be the best in Japan.
WEIRDEST starting premise ever. I really don’t think the host club and Masamune’s flirty tendencies had anything to do with the main plot of this. The real problem that arises is that Masamune doesn’t know Hotaru is actually a girl LOL The series is categorized under action, comedy and shonen but I have no clue where it’s going to go. The title can be loosely translated as Blue Spring x Machine Gun LOLL To be honest I found the first episode quite scattered as if it seemed quite directionless. The character interactions reminded me a bit of Ouran High School Host Club where the main female protagonist (again mistaken for a boy) accidentally breaks a vase in the host club and has to work off the debt. Here, Masamune claims that for every battle Hotaru wins he’ll deduct the charges she caused in the club.
I’m quite curious as to how complex this series could potentially go. Shonen fans will probably stay for the action and gun-blazing battles while shojo fans might stick around for the really good looking male characters. As of episode one, the show is pending for me and I’ll make the final call for reviews after the second or third episode.
