As much as I love Fate Kaleid for all its adorable slice of life antics, I do think there is little to no point in watching the last two episodes of KALMIA just because it felt so fluffy but episode four ended on a more serious note.
Episode four did show us a bit of the magic girl elements because Rin and Luvia are still in the process of setting up an industrial structure to excavate the last card. It seems like the card collecting has been seriously sidetracked for much more slice of life scenes when Luvia rewards the girls with amusement park passes.
Illya, Miyu, Kuro and their friends head to the amusement park which OF COURSE is themed after lions. I half-expected to see a Saber-lion parody reference and we totally got one in the parade. It’s a shame that Taiga sensei didn’t show up in this episode but I suppose her feisty tiger self would have clashed with the many lion mascots roaming about the park. When the girls are separated from their chaperone, Illyasviel, they end up wandering into the lost children center and bump into Caren Hortensia.
I CANNOT BELIEVE CAREN HORTENSIA BECAME A GUARDIAN FOR THE DAY. LIKE THE FACT THAT SHE’S ALREADY A NURSE JUST WEIRDS ME OUT.
Since Caren is usually known for her sharp tongue and sadistic tendencies, it plays out all too hilariously ironic when she’s placed in the fluffiest version of the Fate worlds. Still, we see some tension between Illyasviel and Caren at the end of the amusement park day. Kuro, more observant than the others notices the conversation but doesn’t think too much of it. It seems like the girls are still immensely separated from the adult elements of Fate and the drama that comes with the mage-church-magic side of the world. Though Caren claims that meeting the girls was completely coincidental, perhaps hers and Bazett’s intentions at the amusement park will be revealed in later episodes…
