The Sunshine Award!!

Hello everyone! Today I wanted to share the Sunshine award with you all. I’ve been nominated by the Sky Corps on Twitter AKA (Nick) from the Anime Corps. If you guys don’t know of them check out their blog cause they are a whole team of anime enthusiasts covering so much new stuff every season!!

The Sunshine Award is “an award given to ‘bloggers who are positive and creatively inspire others in the blogosphere’”sunshine

Here are the rules…

  • Thank the person who nominated you
  • Answer the questions from the person who nominated you
  • Write new ones and nominate others you feel deserve the award =D
  • Post that shiny award button on your blog!! 😉

Now, here are the six questions they’ve asked me… I decided to answer them in vlog form so they could go up on my channel and my blog.

  • How many times have you rewatched your favourite anime? How would you say the show feels after the second or third time watching it?
  • If you made your own anime, which genre would it be and why?
  • Which of the media typically associated with our interests (i.e. anime, manga, light novels, visual novels, etc.) is the best for telling an interesting story?
  • What manga or light novel would you want to have an anime adaptation?
  • Are you an avid manga or light novel reader? If so, do you prefer reading from a physical book or digitally from a tablet or computer?
  • What was it that made your all time top favorite anime so special for you? Story? Characters? The Cast? Studio? Animation? Why is it your top favourite anime?

Now… time for some new nominees… I hope this award isn’t only anime exclusive but I’ll try to keep it within the anime fandom. I’d like to nominate…

Ogiue Maniax Great insight and analyses. Your classy critiques always provide me with a refreshing interpretation to any series.

Love-colored Sky I love your enthusiasm for the games you play. Your detailed summaries and reviews really give me a good grasp of the story for games I haven’t bought or played.

Here are my questions to you guys…

  • What motivates your enthusiasm for your blog?
  • What is the biggest trend you see in current anime, manga or visual novels?
  • What character, either in a series or game, do you find yourself constantly relating back to?
  • Which anime series has the most memorable soundtrack for you?
  • If you made your own anime, which genre would it be and why?
  • What are you currently watching (anime), reading (manga or light novel) or playing (visual novel)?

Thanks for reading and once again, thank you to the Anime Corps crew for nominating me and thank you everyone who supports my blog and my channel!! <333

Blogging vs. Vlogging… Youtube Month 1 Mark

Hey guys, how are you all?

It’s been roughly a month since I started doing videos on Youtube. I still don’t think I”m entirely accustomed to the change but thank you very much to everyone who has been with me here and supported me in my first few Youtube videos. Today I wanted to rant a bit about the differences between blogging and vlogging and my thoughts on both mediums.

Originally I was pretty Fuko Ibukiadverse to Youtube – 1) because I totally did not want to be in front of the camera 2) because I only had a very vague idea of what video editing entailed. After a long long long process of deliberation in which the decision was thrown into a volcano, taken out, chopped into pieces and put back together with fairy glue,  I decided to try making videos.  If you guys watched my very very first video, the rendering process made the quality horrible and I had no idea what to say or what to do. For the first few videos I was totally uncomfortable looking at the camera and some close friends even pointed that out to me. The videos were intended to bring out my opinions and thoughts on certain topics within the Otaku culture because while littlecloudcuriosity offers a great space for me to voice my thoughts, I’m always caught up with the weekly episode reviews and I never get the chance to insert a lot of rants. Even when I do post rants, they are either lost in the huge pile of seasonal reviews or I never get around to even writing them because I’m trying to balance my seasonal reviews with schoolwork.

Mio LaptopBlogging and Vlogging are those similar but different kinds of things. Blogging is a more literary medium and while you can incorporate visuals are audio, it’s nothing like the immediacy of a video where someone directly talks to you. A blog post definitely takes less time to upload but a vlog is rewarding in itself because the editing process is much more tedious. The copyright standards on Youtube are a challenge in itself. Last week I got a copyright flag for some anime music I used in my first Anime North 2014 vlog which is why I ended up taking it down, re-editing and re-uploading. Doing videos in my room is easy, vlogging on the go, trying to keep a camera straight and centered on my face is hard. All in all the AN 2014 vlog was a huge learning process and a great way to wrap up the first month.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m not writing this post to complain, rather, the opposite. I’m writing this to show you guys, honestly, what this process has been like to me. I don’t think I’ll ever be super professional with video-making (I really should have taken more film courses in university LOL) and I don’t expect to become a Youtube sensation over night but it actually gives me happy feels to know my videos bring me closer to all of you =’)

Looking forward…

Black Bullet Episode 9 (17)As I’ve made more and more videos, however, I actually enjoy hopping in front of a camera to talk every day. I enjoy making jokes with you guys. I love reading your comments. Yes, I do read each and every single comment I get because Youtube sends me a notification. It’s a bit easier to hop in front of a camera and just talk now (even though  I sometimes end up doing like 5 cuts for one line cause I botch it up so badly). I think I’m a pretty bad actress which is why comedy scenes don’t come up a lot in my videos and I’m a lot more eloquent with back space, copy and paste. You guys don’t know this but I cut out a lot of “um’s” in -editing process. Even I get tired of my own “um… um…” XDD

I am working out a way to keep a fair balance between what goes on here on my blog and what goes on on my channel. I don’t want my channel to take over a lot of the seasonal episode reviews even though a lot of subscribers would like to see me review anime in video mode. I have already taken a look at the summer season and with all the manga and games that are being adapted into an anime, I have at least 8 shows I need to review, almost 10 shows to watch regularly and about 12-13 shows that require First Impression reviews. I think I will split up the reviews here and on my channel. With some shows, it’s easier to rant about in person while others require some in depth analysis that only formal writing will bring out the force of my thoughts. I guess I’ll take it one step and one day at a time.

Again if you guys made it to the end of the post, you are a trooper. This post was pretty text heavy after all…

kill-la-kill-mako-eye-gogglesThank you guys very very much for following me here or on my channel. There would not even be a Youtube channel if t wasn’t for all of you guys. I have just reached 200 subscribers so thank you so much for all your support. I will continue to do my best with new content, reviews and rants. Here’s to looking forward =) Ganbarimasu!

Again, this is a tentative schedule, some things will go up faster than others but I will generally stick to it. Check out my Twitter for quickie updates and more of my ramblings or like my Facebook page because all links to the photos will be posted there as well.

Anime Arguments, Dealing with Heated Debates, Criticisms and Otaku Opinions

I’ve always noticed some things about certain people… some people just take things too seriously. Like when you comment on what they’re wearing or you disagree with them, somehow they take it to heart as if you’ve just backstabbed them and it’s a betrayal of your friendship that you didn’t like the same anime that they did.

Lucky Star - 23 - Large 01

Three scenarios come to mind – the first is that you both have different tastes, and you disagree, then you find something you do have in common and relate on the latter. The second scenario is that you both have completely different opinions and there’s no common ground, but you agree to disagree. The third scenario is that you just go ALL OUT and verbally (sometimes even physically) BEAT THE CRAP OUT OF THEM because they don’t like what you like. And hey, who can blame you for going all out when the idiot friend who you’re conversing with just DOESN’T GET HOW AWESOME – let’s say – LEVI is, from Shingeki no Kyojin. And you’re ready to tie them up in a courtroom full of people and kick the living crap out of them.

… Worked with Eren I guess

Levi Kicks Eren

I mean, I feel like some people just take it so personally when I tell them that I just didn’t think their favourite character was as awesome as they thought. And I think it’s partially because of the fact that we relate so much to our favourite characters. All the strengths and weaknesses and quirks that we love in our favourite characters, we probably find in some aspect of our own personalities. In these moments of heated debates, when your favourite characters are challenged and by extension perhaps you feel as if your own person is challenged, I urge you to KEEP CALM. No seriously. Calm the frick down. Because you have to realize that everyone has different tastes and likes different things. It’s especially to keep calm when you’re talking about controversial characters or too clichéd characters or characters you just happen to love for their looks. Let people fangirl or fanboy over what they want. Let them scream and glomp for who they want because you probably feel the same way they do at some point, just towards a different character.

If you think about it, if we all agreed on one ultimate character, we might end up with fifty Kiritos cosplays at an anime convention… oh wait, that already happens. Never mind. Kirito’s a horrible example and in my opinion, he’s way too over-cosplayed, but he’s relatable to a lot of anime fans out there because many of them are gamers and they all really want to actually be trapped inside their favourite video game. Hence, at least fifty Kiritos at every convention…

Exhibit A…

How many Kiritos does it take to clear a game? Just one, cause it always works out for Kirito. CAUSE HE’S KIRITO DAMMIT!!

Still, there’s a difference between judging something from a more objective perspective than simply from your own selective tastes. For example, I read Tokyo Ravens manga or Shingeki no Kyojin manga and I can honestly say that I am not a fan of the art style either. I found Tokyo Ravens art kind of awkward compared to the animated style and the Shingeki no Kyojin is so shonen and rough that it’s just not for me. BUT on the other hand I absolutely LOVE the art style for Shingeki no Kyojin because it’s exactly that ruggedness that brings out the gritty atmosphere of the story and I really think the art style and the plot go wonderfully together.

Lucky Star2

All I’m saying is that the next time you get into a heated debate over series endings or anime plotlines or favourite or hated characters, try to keep a clear head. It’s great to find someone who likes what you like cause you can both hop up and down excitedly for twenty minutes together but on the flip side try putting yourself in that other person’s shoes. Why would someone like what I don’t like? Try to come out with some reasons other than, “They’re wrong and stupid. And stupidly wrong. The end.”

Konata-lucky-star-35192860-704-396I’ve ranted for a while and I think what my main point is – keep an open mind, whether you’re meeting new people or hanging out at a convention or evaluating new anime. I think you’ll find it much easier to make anime friends as well as keep conversations from descending into that awkward “well we don’t have anything in common so let’s slowly walk away from each other” moment. And this probably applies to all hobbies and things in life, not just anime. It just seems to me that there’s always a lot of in-fighting between otakus on who’s the best and which season was better or who the ultimate voice actor is.

Oh and if you’re on the receiving end of this, the best thing to do, when someone is raging at you, is usually to just walk away. That are stick a Miku leek into their mouth to shut them up – depends on who you’re dealing with and whichever’s comes to mind first.

Lucky Star

ANYWAY… I hope this post shed some light on your situation if you’re actually arguing with a friend in real life or you’re raging intensely against someone in the comments on the internet somewhere. Thanks so much for reading and I think I’ll try to write more rants this week because I’m feeling rather curious 😉

Cloudy Says…

Heyhey how are you all? I hope you’re well. We haven’t really had an update for a while now so I thought this would be a good time to check in. If you’re a new follower on littlecloudcuriosity, welcome! Cloudy Says posts are basically updates from me to you so you can keep tabs on what I’m planning in the next few weeks. Tonight I’m headed to the Just Kidding Films talk at the University of Toronto and I’m super excited. I’ve been following JK Films on Youtube for years now and tonight’s is their first time visiting. YAY

Lately I have been super swamped with midterms and assignments and extra curricular club activities that I feel like I haven’t been too hyped about blog content. Plus Internet at my apartment in Kingston is just so bad I’m ready to bash the router. Stupid winter power outages…

Anyway, this week is my reading week/study week and I’m hoping I can up on some chillax photography to showcase my latest Out of the Box post. To be honest, there hasn’t been a lot of new merch out so I keep scouring the Internet for interesting things to show u guys. How do you guys feel about Asian Snack Features? Like strange new flavors of pocky or weird sorts of snacks that I just happen to come across. Think of it like Snacking with Cloudy and it’ll be a great way for me to share some of my favourite anime marathon noms with you guys.

Despite multitasking like a hundred things at once I’m still trying to keep up with the latest anime episodes every week. Kill La Kill and Tokyo Ravens seem to be heating up intensely alarm last season. As for this season, Nobunaga the Fool, Nisekoi and D-Frag! are going pretty strong.I have also been diligently following Hamatora cause it’s just so awesome and I will be posting a full review of the series when it finishes. The same goes for Pupa which I decided to keep on my watch list cause the episode wraps up in the time it takes for me to eat a piece of chocolate. A new Out of the Box feature will be out sometime this week so keep an eye out for that as well!!

Also, I recently got word of my international exchange application and I’ve been offered to go to Manchester, England in September for an entire year!! I am super excited to see what they have in store for me in Europe and I can’t wait to share some of my travel photography with you guys as well. That’s still a little ways down the road but if you guys have any travel tips for me for England, I’d appreciate it a ton!

I hope you guys liked this update and thank you guys so much for dropping in. I’m going to look around for new stuff to post but for now you can expect steady anime reviews coming out every week. Hopefully my blogger’s block goes away soon!!!

Little Cloud Curiosity`s Nominated for THE LIEBSTER AWARD

Hey guys, this post is going to be a bit different…

Thank you thank you so much to Otaku Orbit for nominating me for the Liebster Award. I honestly didn’t think I would become so immersed into the blog world when I first started in my first year of university as a stress reliever from exams.

The Liebster award is designed to give exposure to new or smaller blogs with less than 200 followers. Here are the rules/requirements…

1) Link back to the blogger who nominated you.

2) Answer the 11 questions given to you by the blogger who nominated you.

3) Nominate 1 other bloggers with less than 200 followers

4) Go to the blogs you nominated and notify them of your nomination

5) Give your nominees 11 questions to answer

Here are the questions I was given…

1) Whats’ your favorite Anime and/or Manga series?

I think my favourite manga series has to be Pandora Hearts. When I first encountered the series, it was the story and art that pushed me out of the more kiddy-styled art and stories to more mature and darker themes. I love seeing series that rework the classic Alice in Wonderland aesthetics and ideas into new stories.

Pandora Hearts

2) What’s the most played song on your iPod?

My most played song on my iPod is “Luminous” by ClariS which was released with the Puella Magi Madoka Magica Movie. It’s so catchy and makes me feel like a magic girl when I listen to it. FLYYYYYYYYYY!!!!

3) If you could travel through time or travel through space which would you choose?

I would travel through time to meet my favourite historical figures and my own ancestors and maybe put a mustache on the Mona Lisa just to see how the art critics of the present would try and make sense of it.

4) If you could be the best athlete in any sport which sport would you choose?

Definitely figure skating. It combines both of my two childhood favourites – dance and gymnastics.

5) If you could live in any fictional universe which would it be?

I would definitely have to choose Jin Yong’s Legend of the Condor Shooting Heroes in China in the Song Dynasty and learn most kickass martial arts EVER. I grew up with all those ancient Chinese stories so they really stick with me and all the history in those stories are a part of my roots.

6) What was the hardest thing you had to learn?

The hardest thing I’ve had to learn is that as much support as everyone gives you in life, it all comes down to your hard work and personal resolve. Oliver Goldsmith once said, “Our greatest glory consists not in never falling, but in rising every time we fall.” You’ve got to know how to build a tough skin in life and pick yourself up no matter how hard it gets.

7) What’s the best part of being a blogger? What’s the worst?

The best thing about being a blogger is getting to write what I like to write. When there are so many trends, fads or ideas that media and other societal pressures, it’s nice to know that when you put your heart into your writing, when you’re writing things for no reason other than the fact that it’s your passion, there are people genuinely interested in your thoughts and willing to listen.

The worst part of being a blogger is probably juggling the blogging life with my regular life. Especially during the school year, it’s a challenge to keep up both my grades and my blog life but the pressure also drives me to be a more organized person.

8) Do you play video games? If so which genre is your favorite?

I do play video games and I grew up playing through every generation of Nintendo – from the grey block Gameboy all the way to the newest 3DS’s. I also enjoy online MMORPG games from time to time so my favourite genre is fantasy because it allows you to experience a completely different world and live a life of magic and monsters that, though it’s sad to say, might never be possible in the world.

9) If you can transform into one animal at will which one would it be?

I feel like this is the question that gets you during interviews cause it takes you by surprise. I would really want to try being a dragon because I’ve always wanted to fly… and spitting fire sounds pretty cool too.

10) Which “weapon” would you choose? A wand from Harry Potter, A lightsaber from Star Wars, or the sonic screwdriver from Dr. Who?

I would have to choose the lightsaber from Star Wars, but I’d probably have a greater chance of amputating myself… or others, than actually figuring out how to use it. I’d put an advertisement in the paper looking for a Yoda master to teach me the ways of the Jedi *bows head*

11) Do you see yourself blogging in 3 years?

I definitely see myself blogging in three years. I initially started my blog just to showcase photography but it’s become an extension of myself now. It’s a great place to interact with other people who have similar interests or insightful views to share. I look forward to blogging everyday and even when I say that I’m going to take a few days off because of school work or some holiday, I get blogger’s separation anxiety with my site haha

Now here is my list of nominations…

… And now for my 11 questions

1) If you had to describe yourself in three words, what would they be?

2) Why did you start blogging?

3) What’s your favourite anime or manga character and why?

4) Who is your biggest inspiration in life?

5) Do you think being an introvert or extrovert is more advantageous as a blogger?

6) If you enjoy books, what’s your favourite genre?

7) What’s the most important lesson you’ve learned thus far?

8) If you were a superhero, what superhero name would you take?

9) During a zombie apocalypse, what weapon would you go for?

10) Do you prefer sweet snacks or salty ones?

11) Where do you see yourself in three years?

Here are 11 Random Facts about Myself…

1) I love collecting stuff in general, not just anime stuff but coins, stamps, Christmas ornaments, pocky, and so on…

2) I know roughly five different languages – English, French, Cantonese, Mandarin and Latin

3) I absolutely love How I Met Your Mother, I follow, watch and rewatch religiously

4) I have such a huge sweet tooth for desserts and tasty treats

5) I’m classically trained in Ballet and danced for 18 years

6) I’m really spontaneous and do things on a flash of inspiration or even a whim

7) I am intensely crazy artsy and as a result I hate handling numbers and figures

8) I love travelling, it makes me feel free

9) I’m slightly addicted to Starbucks… just slightly, I swear!

10) I have blogger’s separation anxiety when I withhold from posting for more than two days

11) I got into the anime otaku and manga life because of my dad

So this is my Liebster Award post. Special thanks to Otaku Orbit for the nomination again and to all of you readers and followers! Love you guys!

What are you pondering today?

Cloudy Quickly Says…

Hihi, how are you all?

I know I haven’t really reviewed anything in the last two days and that’s because I have an exam tomorrow and one more to go before my Christmas holidays begin on the 16th. Till then, posting will be quite sporadic depending on how stressed or how mellow I feel in these next few days. As always, I like keeping you guys in the loop of my life (even though I know you have so many more important things going on in your lives).

I was actually pretty stressed earlier which is why I decided to write to you guys cause you know how much blogging relaxes me ❤

BIG NEWS FOR THIS WEEK -> After my next exam, tomorrow night I will be checking out Madoka Magica the Movie Part III so there will definitely be posting about that. I am so excited to see how the story will unfold and I can’t wait to review it. If you guys have been with me when I first started littlecloudcuriosity, you might know that my first review was on the first two parts of the movie series Part 1: Beginnings and Part 2: The Eternal Story.

Also, it’s almost Christmas… and that means many sales… and that means many bookstore giftcards from friends and family who have no idea what to get me which means new manga 😉 I know I always say there are more manga posts coming soon and I’m not just saying it! It’s actually true because I am such a huge manga collecting crazy fangirl and I am always looking for new stuff to read. As well, I recently put in two orders from which is one of my favourite sites for otaku merch.

I have a feeling I’ll fall behind on some weekly anime reviews but I’ll try my best to keep those going while I drown in Russian history next week for my last exam OTL but totally tweet me if anything earth-shattering in the anime world happens. I am also trying to figure out what anime to watch during the holidays so comment below on what you think I should review during Christmas  and I’ll look into it =)

If you have exams, good luck to you too! がんばろう-Ganbarou!!

Thanks for reading and I’ll talk to you guys soon~

What are you pondering today?

Cloudy Says…

Hey guys, I’ve had a pretty crappy week this week. There have been tests, essays, school issues, house issues and the weather’s just been horrible. Blogging usually takes my mind off my worries so I’ve decided to post a Cloudy Says because we haven’t had one of these in a while.

If you’ve been following my tweets, you probably know that I just got a new phone. It’s a Samsung Galaxy Note III and even though it’s HUGE, it lets me blog and interact with social media everywhere I go so it’s absolutely fantastic compared to my old phone. I’m not trying to promote Samsung LOL. I totally paid for this phone and my wallet still hurts but the trade off is that I can carry my manga with me on an electronic app called MangaSearcher wherever I go, allowing me more time to read manga on the go which is great for me and for you guys cause there will be at least one manga review every week.

Speaking of Wednesday, it just so happens that every week around this time of the week, I feel inspired to write about a manga series so starting today, every Wednesday (or roughly this time in the week) there’s going to be a Midweek Manga Review. This gives me and you a relatively solid day for when manga reviews are going to be posted so please look out for that every week. I’ll be tweeting about it on Tuesday nights as well.

Series continuously being reviewed -> Kyoukai no Kanata, Log Horizon, Diabolik Lovers, Kill La Kill, Tokyo Ravens

If you’re following me for seasonal anime reviews, rants and screenshots, thank you very much for your support! And if you’re specifically following Kyoukai no Kanata, produced by Kyoto Animation and aired every Wednesday, you may or may not have heard that the ending song “Daisy,” sung by Stereo Dive Foundation has been recently leaked. I don’t blame them, the songs is really catchy and it’s one of my favourite songs this fall season. If you haven’t heard it, have a listen from the player below or click the mediafire link for the download.

Here’s the opening song as well…

Also, both the opening and ending songs of Kill La Kill and Golden Time have been released. Only the opening for Tokyo Ravens is out, the ending song will be released towards the end of November.

I hope you’re all well wherever you are!

Cloudy Wonders…

Hey guys, I’ve been noticing the difference in likes and views between my reviews and rants. I was just curious as to what you guys prefer so that I can point my blog in a direction where my strengths lie, write about what you guys are interested in hearing about and possibly stop writing things that I don’t like writing nor do you like reading. Also, if you guys have anything in particular that I’ve never covered or touched on, comment in the poll or below and I will look into it!

Thanks for voting and following! Love you guys!
