Cloudy’s Fall 2015 Anime Favourites

Hello everyone, how have you been?

It’s been almost two weeks since I’ve done reviews and really, this absence wasn’t intentional. I moved to a new apartment, started a new school year, flew across the world for family and fought jet lag for an entire two weeks. I’m back now and it seems like despite the jam-packed nature of my day to day schedule, the anime world moves on… which brings me to my next point…

WELCOME TO THE FALL SEASON OF ANIME!!!

The Fall season is always one of the most anticipated season. For fans who really slogged through summer with many of its slow-paced slice of life and plethora of romance anime, action and mecha fans will rejoice to hear of all the newly adapted series from this season and really there are A LOT of them. Today I’ll be introducing some of my favourite anime selections. The ones I’ll be spotlighting are the select series that I particularly take an interest in, if you’re looking for a more comprehensive list of everything you’ll have better luck checking out something like Ani-chart for an entire run-down of new releases. No anime fan can watch everything or would want to watch everything. For me, I stick a lot to fantasy, action, romance and slice of life and while there four genres are my preferred and comfortable range of series, there’s two or three more suspenseful mystery anime or completely unique series that I’m immensely interested in. That being said, I will dip my toes into episode one of almost all new releases and first impressions posts will be published accordingly. Now that that’s out of the way, let’s… get… started…

[As always, my most anticipated series are at the top of the list while others will be listed alphabetically. Also, an extra smaller list of anime series will be listed in the recommendations section at the bottom of this post.]

K Project Return of KingsK: Return of Kings (Season 2)- THE HIGHLY ANTICIPATED SECOND SEASON OF K PROJECT IS FINALLY BACK!!!!!! Now if you’re into supernatural action and gorgeous animation you’ll want to check out the First season of K Project which released back in 2012. Since then the franchise has really taken off with a movie and otome game subsequently released after season one. The world follows different groups ruled by “Kings” who possess supernatural powers who vie for power within modern day Japan. While the first season follows the mystery of the “missing King” and the memories of Isana Shiro, the second season picks up pretty immediately after the pseudo-concluded storyline of season one. The K movie released later on, served as a minor interjection and bridge between the two seasons and the Red and Blue Kings are once again brought together in season two when disruptions bubble up around the city concerning the Green. With voices such as Kenjirou Tsuda, Daisuke Ono and Mamoru Miyano reprising their roles fans will be ecstatic for more of this exciting and mysterious story.

(As of right now I’ve seen the first episode and the animation is JAW-DROPPINGLY STUNNING)

Release Date: Oct 3, 2015

Osomatsu-sanOsomatsu-san (おそ松さん)- Osomatsu-san is actually one of my most anticipated new anime series. At first glance the art seems rather simplistic and reminiscent of childhood anime series reminiscent of Chibi Maruko-chan and Crayon Shin-chan however the genre is mainly shonen and its over the top comedy will largely appeal to the male demographic. What intrigued me about the series was the vibrant colours and dynamic designs of the poster. The promotional video is engaging and fast-paced and the new adaptation of such an old series (its manga originally published in the 60s and 80s), is the stunning A+ veteran cast comprising the voices and talents of Jun Fukuyama, Yuuichi Nakamura, Kamiya Hiroshi, Daisuke Ono, Kenichi Suzumura, Miyu Irino and Takahiro Sakurai who all have great chemistry from previous series. Osomatsu-san is MUST WATCH!!

Release Date: Oct 6, 2015

The Comet LuciferComet Lucifer (コメット・ルシファ)- One of the rare new gems of the anime world is Comet Lucifer, a new series produced by 8-Bit which falls into the fantasy and mecha genres. It takes place in a futuristic world called Gift where beautiful crystals called Giftium are develop deep within the earth. Sogo Amagi is an average boy who comes from a town called Garden Indigo which thrives off of the mining industry. He ends up wandering into the mines and discovers an underground lake where he meets a mysterious girl… This fresh new anime comes with a fresh new cast starring Yuusuke Kobayashi and Ayaka Ohashi as the two leads. It’ll be interesting to see their chemistry develop.

Release Date: Oct 4, 2015

Concrete RevolutioConcrete Revolutio: Choujin Gensou (コンクリート・レボルティオ~超人幻想~)- Right off the get go the colourful art grabs your eye. The production studio is diverse. The cast is curious. Most recently, we’ve seen Bones bring us shows like Akagami no Shirayuki and Kekkai Sensen. Now this season Bones will be producing the second season of Noragami as well adapting an action-packed manga series with story by Shou Aikawa and art by Nylon. Concrete Revolutio takes place in different version of Japan were superhumans from all avenues mingle and mix in this strange new era. With so many superhumans and super abilities, there’s bound to be trouble. Cue in the Superhuman Bureau whose mission is to manage and protect superhumans so that they might coincide peacefully.

Release Date: Oct 4, 2015

Diabolik Lovers More BloodDiabolik Lovers More Blood (Season 2)- Ah… with the train wreck finale that ended the first season of Diabolik Lovers it’s curious as to how and why production studios were given another chance to adapt this reverse-harem game into an anime. With only twelve to fifteen minutes per week it seems difficult for an anime adaptation to properly shed light on each of the characters (not to mention their mysterious and often traumatic back stories). Nevertheless, Yui Komori is back with a new group of cute-girl loving vampire pretty boys for another round of snack time.

Release Date: Sept 24, 2015

Gakusen Toshi AsteriskGakusen Toshi Asterisk (学戦都市アスタリスク)- Gakuen Toshi Asterisk happens to be one of the earlier releases this season and at the time of this post I have indeed watched the first episode… on a whim, I might say but I enjoyed it nonetheless. I have to say that this series begins with a much more complex world premise than usual and reminds me a bit of magic academies such as that of Mahouka Koukou no Rettousei and Mahou Sensou though not nearly as technical as the former nor as convoluted and sidetracked as the latter.

The series takes place on an island named Asterisk at an academy called Seidoukan Academy which basically trains the new generation students to fight for supremacy against one another and between the six famous schools at a yearly tournament called Festas which attracts huge worldwide reception. Our awkward and somewhat uncertain character Ayato Amagiri has recently transferred to Seidoukan on a scholarship. He ends up meeting the beautiful and fiery Princess Julis-Alexia von Riessfelt among other interesting characters… and school life goes on.

Release Date: Oct 3, 2015

KowabonKowabon (こわぼん)- Kowabon has one of the most interesting promotional videos I’ve ever seen. It takes live action and turns it into animation, featuring a story that has a horror and paranoia kind of theme. The website is vague and the teasers are even more mysterious but if you’re into something new and eclectic, definitely check this one out.

Release Date: Oct 4, 2015

Owari no Seraph NagoyaOwari no Seraph: Nagoya Kessen-hen (Season 2) (終わりのセラフ: 名古屋決戦編)- The first little arc of Owari no Seraph as seen from the Spring season was not enough to satisfy fans and left EVERYONE on a cliff-hanger. Owari no Seraph takes place in a fantasy-apocalyptic world where vampires and humans battle against each other. Humans contract demons in order to wield weapons powerful enough to slay vampires and one boy, Yuuichirou Hyakuya (after a long back story) ends up joining the army against the vampires while his childhood friend Mikaela Hyakuya ends up on the side of the vampires (again due to a long back story). Trust me, that wasn’t a spoiler because if you read the manga, it’s all revealed in the blink of an eye. If you’re interested in checking out season two you’ll definitely need to catch up on previous material or power through the twelve episode of season one. A later release date means you’ve still got a few days to catch up! And without question all voice actors are returning for their characters and hopefully season two will pick up in pace.

Release Date: Oct 10, 2015

SakurakoSakurako-san no Ashimoto ni wa Shitai ga Umatteiru (櫻子さんの足下には死体が埋まっている)-  With a long-winded title that translate to “A Corpse is Buried under Sakurako’s Feet” this anime series has arguably the most intriguing premise of the season. Judging from the name you can already tell that this series falls under mystery. The story follows a bow named Shoutarou Tatewaki who meets a girl named Sakurako Kujou who has the ability to analyze bones and discern clues. As a result the two team up to solve mysteries around the city… To be honest it reminds me a little bit of Gosick but with less Lolita frills and a much more detailed art style and more grounded story-telling. The animation is quite aesthetically pleasing to say the least. Average cast all around.

Release Date: Oct 8, 2015

Shingeki Kyojin SchoolShingeki! Kyojin Chuugakkou (進撃!巨人中学校)- Fans of the popular Shingeki no Kyojin apocalyptic action shonen anime series will be excited to see their favourite characters chibi-fied and placed in an Attack on Titan middle school. This spin-off series doesn’t take itself too seriously (despite the impending doom of giant man-eating monsters) and serves as great light-hearted and endearing material for fans of the originally dark franchise to kick back and enjoy.

Release Date: Oct 4, 2015

Subete ga F ni NaruSubete ga F ni Naru (すべてがFになる THE PERFECT INSIDER)- The Perfect Insider- Adapted from an original mystery light novel by Hiroshi Mori published way back in 1996, another adaptation for this popular story is out this time in an animated medium. The story follows a professor named Souhei Saikawa who will team up with Moe Nishinosono to solve a murder case. For those interested in reading other adaptations you can check out the stand-alone manga or Japanese television drama recently released last year with a total of ten episodes. This season, Subete ga F in Naru will be animated and produced by A-1 Pictures and will feature the voices of Ibuki Kido, Atsumi Tanezaki and Yasuyuki Kase in the three main roles with voices such as Yui Horie, Yoko Hikasa and Tatsuhisa Suzuki in the plethora of supporting roles. With so much popular history in the entertainment world, this story is definitely worth checking out.

Release Date: Oct 9, 2015

Recommendations:

Popular comedy: Ketsuekigata-kun! Season 3 (Release Date: Oct 13, 2015)

Yui and Mio Studying

Overall, I just wanted to let you guys know that the reason I’ve seen off the blogosphere for a while is because of school stuff OTL I’m a fairly organized person and I don’t procrastinate much unless I’m following the end of a series that’s REALLY GOOD in which case, I stop everything in my life for it, but university work is a completely otherworldly load of work that’s completely unmanageable especially when we get into these last few weeks of November when it’s essay season. (I know, I still have to review Shingeki no Kyojin/Attack on Titan, I’m getting lots of pressure from friends to do that – and I will get to it! I hope…)

Now here’s a list of everything that you’ll see in the following weeks… they’ll more or less be out soon…

Cloudy Says…

Hey guys, I’ve had a pretty crappy week this week. There have been tests, essays, school issues, house issues and the weather’s just been horrible. Blogging usually takes my mind off my worries so I’ve decided to post a Cloudy Says because we haven’t had one of these in a while.

If you’ve been following my tweets, you probably know that I just got a new phone. It’s a Samsung Galaxy Note III and even though it’s HUGE, it lets me blog and interact with social media everywhere I go so it’s absolutely fantastic compared to my old phone. I’m not trying to promote Samsung LOL. I totally paid for this phone and my wallet still hurts but the trade off is that I can carry my manga with me on an electronic app called MangaSearcher wherever I go, allowing me more time to read manga on the go which is great for me and for you guys cause there will be at least one manga review every week.

Speaking of Wednesday, it just so happens that every week around this time of the week, I feel inspired to write about a manga series so starting today, every Wednesday (or roughly this time in the week) there’s going to be a Midweek Manga Review. This gives me and you a relatively solid day for when manga reviews are going to be posted so please look out for that every week. I’ll be tweeting about it on Tuesday nights as well.

Series continuously being reviewed -> Kyoukai no Kanata, Log Horizon, Diabolik Lovers, Kill La Kill, Tokyo Ravens

If you’re following me for seasonal anime reviews, rants and screenshots, thank you very much for your support! And if you’re specifically following Kyoukai no Kanata, produced by Kyoto Animation and aired every Wednesday, you may or may not have heard that the ending song “Daisy,” sung by Stereo Dive Foundation has been recently leaked. I don’t blame them, the songs is really catchy and it’s one of my favourite songs this fall season. If you haven’t heard it, have a listen from the player below or click the mediafire link for the download.

Here’s the opening song as well…

Also, both the opening and ending songs of Kill La Kill and Golden Time have been released. Only the opening for Tokyo Ravens is out, the ending song will be released towards the end of November.

I hope you’re all well wherever you are!

5 Scare-your-ass-off Animes for Halloween

Hey guys, have you all thought of some Halloween plans? Pumpkin carving? Trick-or treating? Or perhaps scaring innocent little trick-or-treaters that happen to pass by your house? I’m not a super big fan of scary animes because I can’t watch them alone past six… and even during the day, it makes me super paranoid in the house after seeing scary stuff. But here are my five spooky selections for this Halloween…

when-they-cry---higurashi-52584e7ab38ef5) Higurashi: When They Cry- Up first is a supernatural, horror, murder mystery anime originally based off a game. There are a bunch of different arcs to the anime so you can either marathon this all night and go in order or find a buddy who’ already seen this entire series to guide you through to the best parts. It takes place in the year 1983 in a village called Hinamizawa. Everything seems well and fine until the day of the annual Watanagashi Festival where one person is always murdered and another goes missing… If you decide to spend Halloween on your own hiding from crazy teenage party-goers and screaming tricker-treaters, check out the Higurashi manga as well as the Umineko manga created by the same author or play the games in the dark!

Another-poster4) Another– Interestingly enough, the novel of which this anime was originally based off of was published on October 29 in 2009, very close to Halloween. It takes place in a high school called Yomiyama Middle School… but prepare yourselves. The series revolves around a boy named Koichi Sakakibara and winds up in a freaky horror mystery that leads to the gruesome deaths of many of his fellow students…

Elfenlied3) Elfen Lied- Looks innocent on the cover of the manga and Lucy at first glance BUT it gets pretty gory. Despite the romance and fantasy aspect, there’s a lot of psychological stuff and horror throughout the story. The title actually means Elf Song and takes place in Kamakura, Japan. The show really goes into themes of prejudice, alienation, violence and social conflict between the humans and the Diclonius species (genetically mutated creatures that resemble humans)

FutureDiary_1c_cvr.indd2) Mirai Nikki: Future Diary- One of the most popular animes out there. You’ve probably encountered this series or art somewhere on the internet with the wonderfully charming pink haired girl with the sky blue uniform and the undying devoted stalker murderer buddy. All joking aside, if you’ve really never heard of Future Diary, it’s about a boy named Yuki Amano who spends WAY too much time writing a diary on his phone and talking to his imaginary friend, Deus Ex Machina and Deus’ servant, Murmur. When Deus gives Yuki a diary regarding a game, Yuki is forced into a fight to the death with eleven other people who also have diaries, to become the new God of Time and Space. The girl mentioned earlier is Yuno Gasai, the famous Yandere, who ends up teaming up with Yuki… and obsessing her future happy ending of becoming one with him.

533718-deadman_bd_v_11) Deadman Wonderland- Written by Jinsei Kataoka and Kazuma Kondou, the writer and illustrator of the Eureka Seven manga, this action, drama, sci-fi, psychological horror anime is another of the better known stories out there if you dabble in such genres. It begins with an earthquake that shakes up the country of Japan. Ganta Igarashi, a middle-schooler survives, but he finds himself with no recollection of the accident. A figure named the Red Man massacres his entire class but leaves him alive and embeds a shard of the red crystal in him. Being convicted for the deaths of his entire class, he’s sentenced to a giant prison called Deadman Wonderland that creepily resembles a sadistic amusement park… just wait till that Corpse Carnival.

Of course, classic shounen fans can re-watch Death Note. I didn’t include it in the list because it’s such a widely known anime, it’s considered one of the big mainstream ones. There’s also a wide selection of horror movies and classic vampire movies that you might personally want to watch or re-watch (like Vampire Hunter D). There are a lot of great horror-themed animes out there. Halloween just encourages us to watch them again 😉 I hope you guys have a great trick-or-treat night or cosplay anime party. Wherever you are, I hope you have a spooktacular Halloween!!

Cloudy Says…

Hi guys, how are you all?

We’re starting to get into the cool fall weather and the flu is really going around so I hope you’re all well! By now, you guys will probably have noticed that I’ve changed a few things on the site in terms of layout and look. Since all my posts are organized into categories, or featured on the Recent Posts widget, the home page should generally load faster and hopefully everything is more easily navigable for you guys.

I’ve decided to feature all my latest updates and news on a Cloudy Says page so be sure to check there if you’re ever wondering what I’m up to. As well, fall is the season for many many new manga releases so for fans of the series “Are You Alice?” I’ve already planned a review for volume 2 as well as one for volume 6 of Betrayal Knows My Name. Of course, these are just the series that I personally follow and several other manga that I have purchased are still sitting on my shelf waiting to be read and reviewed!

The beginning of October also brings us the new releases of the fall anime season. If you guys are interested in what that may entail, check out my Fall Samples post for my picks this season. I can’t wait to check out the new shows and a poll will be coming up very soon for you all to vote on what reviews you want this season. Right now, I’m following Diabolik Lovers and from the summer season, Kimi no Iru Machi has just finished this week so I still owe you guys one last summer anime review.

On a side note pertaining to the may-or-may-nots, I’ve recently made an otome buddy who has me playing Starry Sky~After Spring.  I’m currently in the middle of the visual novel so depending on how I feel after I’ve completed the routes, I am considering a review of the game as well as a review of the game Second Reproduction that I finished a while ago.

Now that my Cloudy Says news are going to be perpetually posted on a page, I hope you guys will find it easier to follow along my blog agenda. Thank you all so much for dropping in. It means a lot to me that you take the time to read what I write.

Out of the Box: Clock Zero Cards

Hey guys, in honour of the new Diabolik Lovers series that’s ongoing this season. I wanted to share with you guys my cards from Clock Zero playing cards.

DSC_0060b

Clock Zero is another otome visual novel which follows a girl named Kurou Nadeshiko who ends up joining a club called Clock Zero… Throw in some romance, a few routes, some supernatural elements and time skips. I find each of the male characters pretty interesting so if you understand Japanese and you’re into otome visual novels, try the game!

I got these from a gashapon machine while I was in Japan (so I guess a better title to this post would be “out of the ball”) and they fit perfectly in the palm of your hand. The art from the game is well represented in the scenes where the couples are depicted and I love the chibi character designs of the boys!

I hope you guys liked this quickie post. I really hope for a Clock Zero anime sometime in the near future…
