Vocaloid Artbooks

IMG-20130906-00334b

Hey guys! I visited the bookstore on the weekend and I Just wanted to let you guys know that Hatsune Miku and Kagamine Rin & Len artbooks have been officially released in North America. The books have beautiful metallic cover designs and contain over 150 illustrations of its featured character. They’re a good collection of fully coloured illustrations for the price that they’re sold for. They go for about 30-35 Canadian dollars over here (U.S. prices will vary)

Volume 1 features only Miku while the second volume features Rin & Len. Volume 3 of Megurine Luka will be released in stores on October 8 so be on the lookout for that if you’re planning on collecting the trilogy. If you’re a really huge fan of the vocaloids, the artbooks are really worth purchasing because you’re getting officially licensed art.

Hatsune Miku Live Party Concert Screening

The Hatsune Miku Live Party Concert Screening was a great way to end my FanExpo weekend on Sunday. Though it took place in a movie theatre setting and it was only a screening of a Hatsune Miku concert, all the fans were still cheering and waving and singing to every song. It was tons of fun and I really hope that Crypton Future Media brings the concert over to Toronto soon!

Hope you guys like these photos! Thanks for dropping in!

Crypton Media Presents: Hatsune Miku Panel @ FanExpoCanada 2013

On Saturday of FanExpo Canada this year, I attended a panel featured around Hatsune Miku, a vocaloid. Now, you may be wondering, “What is a vocaloid?” If many of you are familiar with the vocaloids, you’ll know that they’re not anime characters nor are they from a game. Vocaloids are basically voice synthesizers that work together with other together with other audio workstations and music editing programs to create music.

The Crypton Media Hatsune Miku panel was really great because it answered a lot of questions pertaining the possibility of well, more Miku in North America. First off, it was announced that the Hatsune Miku V3 English will be officially released on August 31 – This week! The voice of English Miku stays true to the original Japanese voice actress Saki Fujita and the program will be available for both Windows and Max users.

Hatsune Miku English will come with a piapro studio vocal editor with an English database, a full digital audio workstation and more than 200 visual instruments. The download version will be released first and the entire thing costs about 149 dollars + tax.

For all you gamers out there, the Hatsune Miku Project Diva F English version, available on the PlayStation 3 will be released this week. I originally played this game in Japanese on my friend’s PSP. It’s really addicting and if you enjoy games like Dance Dance Revolution or music related games, you’ll love it! If they convert the official English version into PSP format, I might just buy a PSP just to play and own the game.

As well, there’s actually a Hatsune Miku Opera that played earlier in Japan this year. It’s called The End and features three huge screens to animate the vocaloid as she sings. Miku’s outfits were designed by the French fashion designer Louis Vuitton in collaboration with Marc Jacobs and his own studio team.

Vocaloid culture and Hatsune Miku fandom seems to be growing by slowly and steadily, accumulating fans all over the world. And it’s great! Because there are new songs being created every day with the Vocaloid programs, new designs, images and videos!

Lastly, release dates for the first official Miku books in English are going to be released this year!

Starting with CV01: Hatsune Miku Edition ($29.95) – August 28, 2013

CV02: Kagamine Rin & Len Edition ($34.95) – August 28, 2013

CV03: Megurine Luka Edition ($34.95) – October 30, 2013

If you guys are more curious as to what Miku is all about, search up the Hatsune Miku Google Chrome commercial. It’s really short and cute but it really sums up the entire vocaloid culture really well.

Here are some of my favourite vocaloid songs…

Gumi- Hey DJ!

Hatsune Miku- Story

Hatsune Miku- Senbonzakura

Megurine Luka- The Tailor Shop on Enbizaka

Hatsune Miku- Tell Your World

Gakupo- Breathe

Kagamine Rin- Romantic Escape

I hope you guys liked this mini feature. More features from FanExpo Canada to come soon!

FanExpo Canada 2013 Photography Part 2

Since I don’t edit much of my convention cosplay photography, the only difficult part is actually choosing the ones that go up on the site. Don’t worry though, no one was cut out! Here’s part 2 of the photographs taken on Saturday and Sunday. Saturday was INSANE! I’ve never seen so many people crammed into a convention centre before!

All these photographs are completely eating up my media space on the site but it’s totally worth it! I hope you guys like your photos. Check out “Behind the Lens” for more of my work and I am available for cosplay photoshoots or any other events that require a photographer. I’m usually back and forth between Toronto and Kingston. Just shoot me an email to littlecloudcuriosity@gmail.com if you need me!

To the girl who cosplayed as Nanami Haruka from my favourite anime- Uta no Prince-Sama, YOU ARE AWESOME!! You totally made my weekend and I would love to do a photo shoot of you! Please email me if you’re interested!

Also, I can’t believe someone actually cosplayed as Haru from Free! (I wonder if he jumped into the fountain outside for a swim…)

Star Wars Photo Shoot! (A compilation of photographs) Most epic gathering of cosplayers I have ever seen By the way, anyone spot Waldo in the photographs?

Additional photos of cosplayers and panelists that my dad took with his camera! (Yu Asakawa is so pretty in person!)

This is the last of the cosplay and general convention photography. Special panel reviews + photography will come soon. Please check my latest Cloudy Says post for the list of posts/features coming soon!

Cloudy’s Otaku Workout Playlist

2945306348-1Hey guys! I’t’s been quite a while since I’ve posted a Light Otaku Living piece. I’ve been working on this post for a while now. Part of what pumps me up during summer is the fact that the sunny weather just motivates you to go outside and do exercise… Just kidding! Who wants to do exercise when we could curl up the corner with our favourite anime plushie and marathon our all-time favourite anime series for hours on end? Okay, that all sounds good and well but you have to get up SOMETIME because you need to eat, drink, handle other bodily functions and sleep… well, maybe not that last one when it comes to an anime marathon.

I’ve been noticing that I’ve been getting really antsy from holing up in the house all day for work or blog writing so one morning I decided to head down to my basement (where it’s the coolest in temperature) and start exercising.

All I did was compile a list of my favourite upbeat anime songs and start moving my body. Here’s what I use for my mini workout at home. I have exercises I do from 1-10 but songs 11-15 are other songs I use for cardio.

I love my otome game songs and I know the Fate series lean more towards shonen but you can’t NOT put Carnival Phantasm and Fate Zero in there! Also, Sword Art Online, anything with vocaloids and Touhou Project are also ones that stands in the middle of both shojo and shonen.

For the shonen playlist, I tried my best find all the best songs from a wide range of animes. I threw in a bit of Madoka because for some reason, all the guys I know absolutely love that series… as well as some K-On for you light music lovers 😉

I tried really hard to get a mix of some oldies and some newer ones.

Thank you guys for reading this really long post and I hope you found something fun to listen to. Hopefully I motivated you just a bit to throw in a few minutes of exercise every day. Comment below on the songs you like from the lists or a song that’s not on the lists. I would love hear your favourites! Have a great day!
