MCM London Comicon 2015

MCM Comicon London Spring 2015 (1)

Hey guys how are you all? Today I wanted to share with you guys all of the really awesome pictures that I got from MCM Comicon in London. I only had time to pop into London for a day since the convention is smack dab in the middle of my exam season but I had tons of fun talking with cosplayers, artists and con-goers all day. MCM in London takes place at the Excel Centre, an absolutely gigantic venue and rightly so because there were tons of panels and special guests featured for the weekend. I ended up at the Bandai Namco panel and Agents of Shield panel before the cosplay show. I actually found the Fall convention in London more exciting than the spring one because there seemed to be more anime cosplayers in the Fall however I ended up stumbling into a HUGE Disney photo shoot which was a real treat for me as a fan.

In order to travel light I brought along my Nikon 1 J3 with the 10-30mm lens great for casual photography and vlogging of course. My camera actually used up both batteries before the end of the day so I didn’t get as many photos during the cosplay showcase as I would have liked however I did grab a ton of video footage throughout the entire Saturday. The vlog will be uploaded soon and of course a Haul video is also in the works. I hope you guys enjoy these photos and don’t forget to check out MCM Comicon’s official site to see where their other conventions will be taking place in the UK.

Cloudy’s Top 5 Manga Art Styles

Hey guys, recently with all my new manga released, I’ve been flipping through a lot of my favourite series to remind myself of the events thus far which really inspired me to do this post on my top 5 manga styles.

5) Clamp- No shoujo artstyle list or discussion or forum exists without some mention of the clamp trademark. Unnaturally tall but slender and elegant bodies coupled with a manga aesthetic that seems so natural and effortless for the reader, clamp is simply timeless.

4) Ema Toyama- Creator of I Am Here and Watashi ni Shinasai!!- Missions of Love; you’ll instantly fall in love with these series from the art alone. Toyama’s style exaggerates the eyes and facial expressions, especially in close up panel shots. Its slice of life high school stories with a feminine touch to it making it very well received with the shojo demographic.

3) Jun Mochizuki- If you’ve read pandora hearts, you know what I mean. There’s a fine balance that you tread when adding subtle detail to the eyes to make them both cheery and creepy at the same time. There’s a sense of warped dimensionality to the plot and the characters are essential to bringing out this dark yet whimsical theme.

2) Yana Toboso- Tobaso’s famous Black Butler series has become one of the most well-loved series out there. Her art style boasts gorgeous landscape art, intricate character costume designs and stunning body figure action choreography making the panels flow seamlessly from one animated panel into the other, she’s truly a master at what she does.

1) Hotaru Odagiri- She is the author of Uraboku or Betrayal Knows My Name. Her artstyle really encapsulates the epitome of shoujo art. Stylistically, the smooth gradient colouring and excessive shading typical to shojo manga but she’s made her characters immensely distinguishable and impressionable. I originally borrowed the series from the library and I’m totally set on buying the actual volumes because the art is just so gorgeous.

Hope you guys liked this post, let me know what your favourite art styles are in the comments! Thanks for reading and I will talk to u guys soon 🙂

Composer Spotlight – Yuki Kaijura

11743Hi everyone! I hope you’re all well. I know I’ve been doing a lot of anime reviews focusing on the summer season new series so I’m going to try and put out some different otaku related content. Today I’m going to be introducing one of my favourite music composers – Yuki Kaijura.

Kaijura’s done solo albums, written insert music for anime, game music, anime score music and even produced albums. What made me really look into her biography was the anime soundtracks that I became addicted to after the anime. The soundtrack is such a significant factor in the anime because it sets the mood, it reinforces the emotions of the story and it overall strengthens the dramatic punch of the plot.

“She is me, and I am her. Our existence is both the same and different. Alice. That was the name we were given. Alice.”

Lacie.Baskerville.full.1170207

The first time I heard Kajiura’s music is in the Pandora Hearts soundtrack. The manga is one of my top favourites because the story is Alice in Wonderland-themed but the entire plot makes many twists and turns. The music is suspenseful, it’s dark but also hauntingly beautiful. My favourite song has to be Lacie. It’s so tragic and sad but also evokes a sense of nostalgia…

“If someone tells me it’s wrong to hope, I will tell them they’re wrong every time. I could tell them that countless times” – Madoka Kaname

The next two series are Puella Magi Madoka Magica and Sword Art Online. I watched both of them in the same year just as SAO was finishing its second season. Kaijura’s worked with Kalafina on multiple albums, one of which is called “After Eden” which was released in 2011. The track list included the insert song from Madoka, called “Magia.”

normal_FJ_-_27

“That sword… is the dream all warriors, past, present, and future hold as their deaths approach. A sad, exalted dream. She carries their will as her pride, bidding them to remain steadfast in their loyalty. Now, the undefeated king sings aloud the name of the miracle she holds in her hand. It’s name is…” “Excalibur!” – Irisviel von Einzbern and Saber

FateZero822

fate-zero-ost1-lHave you guys seen Fate/Zero? Fate/Zero is the prequel to Fate Stay Night and tells the story of the fourth Holy Grail War in Fuyuki city. The score for Fate/Zero is both dynamic and forceful to illustrate the violence of the battles and filled with heartbreaking sentiment to reflect the sorrows that come with war as well as the stories of Heroic Spirits. Take the song, “The Beginning of the End,” there is something so forlorn about the tone, but still, you can hear a spell of hope that occurs within the sadness and you can’t help but feel a strong sense of determination and resolve at the conclusion of the song.

“A person is very strong when he seeks to protect something.” – Heathcliff

Sword.Art.Online.full.1539562

Sword.Art.Online.full.1341607In Sword Art Online, Kaijura’s most recent work, I actually hear pieces of Fate/Zero and Puella Magi Madoka Magica styled into the anime’s score. Listen to “Survive the Swordland,” “We Have to Defeat it,” and “Luminous Sword” and you’ll get a sense of what I mean.

Aside from three of my favourite anime soundtracks that she’s worked on, she’s also worked on the closing theme and insert songs for Mobile Suit Gundam Seed and Destiny, songs for the whole .hack series, Baccano!, Black Butler (both season), Loveless, Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicles the Movie: Princess in Birdcage Kingdom and the list goes on.

“The best soundtrack music by-passes your mind and goes straight to your soul. It sort of trips something in your brain, you know you’re being transported.” – Cameron Crowe (Jerry Maguire, Almost Famous)

yukikajiura

I hope you guys enjoyed this feature. If you did, make sure you hit like and follow for me stuff that’s coming every day! Let me know in the comment what your favourite soundtracks are and whether or not you love Kaijura’s work as well! Thank you guys so much for reading and I will talk to you guys soon! Take care!
