Just here to update you folks on the blog about my new video on key summer favourite anime I’ll be looking forward to. As well, I wanted to present the summer season poll so you guys can vote for what … Continue reading
Ahhhh~ This will be the third summer of anime I will be covering since I started Little Cloud Curiosity. Usually summer holds some of my most anticipated anime but it seems like most of my hype ended with the conclusion of previous spring season series such as Fate/Stay Night Unlimited Blade Works and Nisekoi Season 2. I am however excited for a few new shows coming up this summer as well eagerly awaiting more episode from already established franchises. Now then, most you know my general taste judging from my previous reviews – a lot of fantasy, slice of life, romantic, action, epic… not too much gore, not too much blood and so on. Now without further ado, allow me to introduce to you all the run-down of my anime line up this month…
Fate/Kaleid Liner Prisma Illya 2wei Herz!! (プリズマ☆イリヤ ツヴァイ ヘルツ!) – AHHHHHH This is my most anticipated series for the summer!! I reviewed the first two season in previous seasons and I AM SO EXCITED FOR MORE ILYA. With the appearance of Kuro in 2wei, there are still so many unanswered questions to Ilya’s family story (ufufufu) and Miyu’s back story which is one of the most interesting parts of the series. Seriously this is one of the most fun and best spin-off worlds to come from the Fate world and I enjoy it immensely because it combines all the great elements of the Nasuverse with cutesy and enjoyable aspects of the magic girl genre.
Release Date: July 25, 2015
Chaos Dragon: Sekiryuu Senyaku (ケイオスドラゴン 赤竜戦役) – I wasn’t a big fan of the premise because historical fictional action series aren’t usually as stimulating for my taste however the teaser looks so suspenseful and action charged. On top of that the animation is so vibrant and the colours so bold and the script features a pretty strong ensemble of immensely seasoned voice actors such as Unshou Ishizuka, Miyuki Sawashiro, Maaya Uchida and Marina Inoue.
The story focuses on a power conflict between two war-torn countries – Donatia and Kouran. With a plot that boasts the brains of Gen Urobochi, Kinoko Nasu, Iduki Kougyoku, Ryohgo Narita and Simadoriru, this light novel series is definitely hyped up for an action packed release. Anime fans who have been a bit bored from the slice of life and romance series from the Spring season will enjoy a new change in pace.
Release Date: July 2, 2015
Wooser no Sono Higurashi Mugen Hen (うーさーのその日暮らし 夢幻編) – Ahhh Wooser~~ I have anticipated more of this quirky and fun series since I watched the entire first two seasons in about two hours last summer. Wooser is a rather crass and blunt little mascot dog who gets into a bit of mischief every now and then. The main point of the story telling is on short gags and little skits where Wooser interacts with other characters. Fans of Japanese contemporary trends or anime might catch some of the references from anime series from the same producing company. What’s great about the series is that its dialogue ranges from absolute nonsense to jaded pieces of every day advice. The voice actors are absolutely A+ for this series with popular singer and seiyuu Mamoru Miyano heading the line-up as the beloved Wooser and Hiroshi Kamiya-sama as Darth Wooser.
Release Date: July 3, 2015
Akagami no Shirayuki-Hime (赤髪の白雪姫) – Loosely translated as “Snow White with the Red-Hair” the promo video features a spunky and outgoing girl who, in order to escape marriage with a prince, cuts her hair and runs off to the next country. She goes on… a bit of an adventure and the plot mimics a bit the classical German fairy tale Snow White by the Brothers Grimm. It seems a bit generic but I’m usually willing to give anything within the fantasy genre a chance. As well, it’s always interesting to see what writers can do with fairy tale spin-off adaptations. The cast of main characters features one of my favourite voice actors ever – Nobuhiko Okamoto (Mikoto from Gekkan Shoujo Noazki-kun, Yoichi from Owari no Seraph and Shouta from Sekaiichi Hatsukoi).
Release Date: July 7, 2015
Charlotte (シャーロット) – Oh P.A. Works we meet again with a new slice of life series named Charlotte. We’ve seen major mishaps with Glasslip but a major pick up since Shirobako in previous season. P.A. Works is probably my favourite company and has a tendency to pick up stories and series that really lean towards my taste as a result I will be checking out Charlotte which incorporates slice of life high school life with supernatural elements in each of the characters. Judging from the promo video, the music seems quite avant-garde off the get go but hits us hard with an emotional ballad towards the end.
Directed by Yoshiyuki Asai, who was also responsible for series such as Angel Beats and my personal favourite, Nagi no Asukara, Charlotte will feature a cast of voices we’ve seen in a ton of recent and popular anime series. Ayane Sakura (Yozora from Haganai, Shimakaze KanColle and Haru from Nisekoi), Maaya Uchida (Futaba from Ao Haru Ride, Rikka from Chuunibyou, Hyori from Noragami), Kouki Uchiyama (Seiya from Amagi Brilliant Park, Dio from Buddy Complex, Raku from Nisekoi), Takahiro Mizushima (Romeo from Romeo x Juliet and Haruki from White Album 2). There seems to be a lot of potential for a fast-paced series despite the slice of life tag. Oh I’m waiting for you to wrench my heart out Charlotte.
Release Date: July 5, 2015
Chu Feng: BEE-(雛蜂-BEE-) – Coming at you all this season is a new series adapted from a Chinese manhua originally written and drawn by Sun Heng. I’m not usually into ecchi but the story primarily falls into seinen, fantasy, mecha and action categories as well. The story follows a guy named Shun Hao Xuan who lives in a future generation. When he gets caught up in the arms race conflict and taken as hostage, a beautiful girl swoops in and happens to save him while she’s on mission. The girl – Liuli (voiced by the talented and stunning Kana Hanazawa), is the latest generation of the Vanguard, created from new engineering technologies. Her final mission before retirement is to protect the “Son of Eden.”
Sounds like an interesting premise overall. I really hope it gets fluid animation because the mecha aspects are really crucial to the flow of the story and there is a lot of combat so we need really smooth transitions and high quality animation art to get the mood of the futuristic world.
Release Date: July 23, 2015
Gate: Jieitai Kanochi nite, Kaku Tatakeri (ゲート 自衛隊 彼の地にて、斯く戦えり) –This series initially caught my eye because of how much one of the characters on the poster reminded me of Sinon from Sword Art Online: Gun Gale Online. A-1 Pictures is really bringing their A-game this season. This new anime takes place in a future and alternate Tokyo where a “Gate” opened up in Ginza, heralding mobs of monsters into the city. The attack is met by the Japan Ground-Self Defence force and the story narrows in on a young officer named Youji Itami who leads a team to a number of different places. The plot seems to attempt to balance international political conflict with fantasy aspects while incorporating themes such as knowledge, friendship and perspective when it comes character interactions. Sounds like A LOT going on but at least animation will definitely be on par.
The cast is looking good with its main characters featuring seiyuu such as Risa Taneda (Mirai from Kyoukai no Kanata and Kaori from Shigatsu wa Kimi no Uso), Junichi Suwabe (Undertaker from Kuroshitsuji, Archer from Fate/Stay Night and Ren from Uta no Prince-sama), Hisako Kanemoto (Taiga from Fate/Zero and Ami Mizuno from Bishoujo Senshi Sailor Moon Crystal) and my new favourite, Nao Touyama (Chitoge from Nisekoi and Himiko from Nobunaga the Fool)
Release Date: July 4, 2015
Makura no Danshi (まくらのだんし) – OMG WHY IS THIS GETTING AN ANIME =.=””” IT WAS ORIGINALLY AN APP… and it is SOOO ridiculously as an anime series concept. I can’t see how this could even be an anime. Basically… a cute anime boy stares at you and whispers things to you as you go to sleep. In every episode. I know. The anime industry. Japan. Why…
Release Date: July 14, 2015
Rokka no Yusha (六花の勇者) – Adapted from a light novel, I’m quite excited to check out this new fantasy series this season. It’s a relatively new series that’s only been out since 2011, written by Ishio Yamagata with illustrations by Miyagi. The story focuses on a boy named Adlet who was selected among the Heroes of the Six Flowers to be the strongest on Earth. He meets up with a band of other interesting characters, one of which is the enemy…
The series will be brought to you by Studio Passione, featuring a main cast of voices including Soma Saito, Yoko Hikasa, Aoi Yuki, Koki Uchiyama, Ai Kakuma, Rina Sato and Kenichi Suzumura; all in all a fairly stable cast of seiyuu. I virtually know nothing of the series except what I’ve seen in promotional media since I have a tendency to read light novels after their anime adaptations. Hopefully Rokka no Yusha will bring some much needed mystery fantasy elements into our lives this season.
Release Date: July 5, 2015
Working!! (ワーキング!!) – This cute new slice-of-life series by A-1 Pictures caught my eye last minute when I was scrolling through the summer chart releases. The story takes place specifically in Hokkaido, Japan called Wagnaria. A high schooler named Sota Takanashi ends up working part-time at a restaurant with a bunch of quirky and eccentric characters. The promotional video looks TOTALLY DERP but I suppose that’s what gives it its charm in this season’s line-up. The cast has some of the most notable voices in the industry, Daisuke Ono, Hiroshi Kamiya-sama, Jun Fukuyama, Jouji Nakata, Eri Kitamura, Kumiko Watanabe, Kana Asumi and many others.
Release Date: July 5, 2015
Junjou Romantica Season 3 (純情ロマンチカ) – AHHHH Yaoi and boys love fans will be thrilled for the latest anime adaptation of Nakamura Shungiku’s popular series, Junjou Romantica. Personally I like Sekaiichi Hatsukoi more because it has more lighthearted back story material versus Junjou Romantica which features more mature emotional content between the characters. However, I am a HUGE fan of Nakamura Shungiku’s art style and writing. Her humour is ON POINT. Junjou Romantica is also great for yaoi fans who want a lighter series for their taste as well as beginner readers who are looking to dip their toes into the genre.
The series follows three different couples but mainly a boy named Misaki Takahashi, who through his brother, ends up living with a famous author named Akihiko Usami (and becoming his lover in the process ahem*). The original cast is back of course with Takahiro Sakurai (as Misaki Takahashi), Hikaru Hanada (as Akihiko Usami), Kentaro Itou (as Hiroki Kamijou), Nobutoshi Canna (as Nowaki, Kusama), Kazuhiko Inoue (as You Miyagi) and Daisuke Kishio (as Shinobu Takatsuki). Studio Deen will be handling the animation.

Thank you guys so much for reading, if you have time or feel so inclined, please take a moment to offer your vote in the poll, your opinion and votes really make a difference to which main series I follow on a weekly basis with blog recaps and contribute to the brainstorming process for new anime impression vlogs and series review. First impressions vlogs and blog posts will be coming for most if not all of the series listed above so stay tuned for that. Let me know in the poll suggestions if you have a recommendation for me not listed above or tweet me @CuriousCloudy to tell me what new series you’re most looking forward to and I will talk to you guys very soon ^^/
What are you pondering today?
Hey guys, today I’m doing a long overdue post on my favourite openings and endings in the anime world. Honestly it was SO HARD picking ten for the list because there are so many amazing songs out there.
10) Angel Beats Opening – My Soul Your Beats (LiA)
“I felt like I heard it because I felt like I sensed it. Just now, in my heart that’s begun to tremble…”
Angel Beats starts off the list. I have never ever missed an opening of Angel Beats for the entirety of the series nor the second time I rewatched the series to review. I love the concept of Kanade’s name and Tenshi title alluding to the beats of the song. The song goes splendidly with the themes in the story and bring back the feels of the finale. My Soul Your Beats is on almost every top anime song playlist out there and it wouldn’t be an anime playlist without it.
9) Luminous – Puella Magi Madoka Magica Movie Opening (ClariS)
“The things I would dream of when I was young are still far away, but when you’re here I feel I’m a little stronger…”
When I first heard Luminous in the theatres I was almost jumping out of my seat because it is just so amazing. It encompasses both the emotions of the story and the thrill and excitement of magical girls. ClariS is disbanding right now because one of the members are taking time off to pursue her studies. I am going to miss Clara and Alice so much! It was really hard to pick one ClariS song on my list this would definitely be the one for me.
8) Hoshizora no Watlz – Kimi ga Nozomu Eien Ending (Kuribayashi Minami)
To be honest I have only ever seen one episode of the series and it’s outside my usual genre because the series has a lot of bishoujo drama and tragedy for guys because it is based on a romance visual novel. However, the ending song is absolutely beautiful and I stumbled upon it many years ago when I was still a light anime fan. Now even when new seasons generate new openings and endings, Hoshizora no Waltz remains one of my all time favourites.
7) Sekai de Ichiban Koi Shiteru – Sekaiichi Hatsukoi Opening 1 (Shuuhei Kita)
Okay so maybe this one’s a really personal pick because it’s my favourite yaoi series opening but it is just SO CATCHY and it does a great job introducing the story and its characters. It goes through each of the main couples and supporting characters as the scenes pan from one office to the other. The song was written to go hand-in-hand with the premise of the series story. Also, there are so many sparkles, flowers, hearts, bunnies and flower petals in this opening, it’s the ultimate shojo fluff opening and the series is definitely one of my guilty pleasure songs.
6) Bokura wa Ima no Naka de – Love Live Opening 1 (Muse)
Let all your idol dreams come true in this opening. I fell in love with it when I watched Love Live. I learned all the lyrics, I’ve seen the voice actresses perform the song live and I have learned all t he dance moves to go with it. I love how it brings out all the feelings and insecurities and confidence of the idols and it’s just a really fun and upbeat song to listen to when you need to give yourself a positive boost.
5) Starlog – Fate Kaleid Liner Prisma Illya Opening (Choucho)
This song is probably the newest and most recent on one the list. It came out with the new Fate series depicting Illyasviel von Einzbern as a magic girl. I loved the driving beats of the song and ChouCho’s vocals are just perfect along with the dreamy atmosphere of the song. The lyrics speak of the courage it takes to become a magical girl and paints a really vivid starry sky in your mind.
4) Uta no Prince-sama 1000% Ending – Maji Love 1000% (STARISH)
Uwaaaaaaa It would not be a favourites list with something by STARISH – the seiyuu singing group formed from the Uta no Prince-sama otome games and anime. The band is named STARISH after taking the first character of either first or last name from each of the characters. Syo, Tokiya, Aijima, Ren, Ittoki, Shinomiya and Hijirikawa all voiced by a group of wonderfully talented seiyuus. Mamoru Miyano among them is my favourite. Maji Love 1000% is STARISH’s debut song and every UtaPri fan who knows it knows it’s the ultimate UtaPri song.
3) Gundam Seed Destiny Opening 2 – Pride (Sung by High & Mighty)
This was the very first Gundam opening and song I ever watched and listened to. I love how the slow scenes introduce all the different couples and main characters before throwing us into the main mecha action. This is mainly one of my Gundam favourites because the lyrics are so poetic and really reflect a lot of the characters’ internal emotional and mental struggles as they contemplate the true meanings of war, power and true peace throughout the story.
2) Fate/Zero Ending 2 – Sora wa Takaku Kaze wo Utau (Haruna Luna)
Fate/Zero is one of my favourite anime series out there. I absolutely loved it and it was ten times better than the original Fate/Stay Night. I love the lyrics and the chord progression of the song because it perfectly goes with the atmosphere of the story and sentiment of the characters. Haruna Luna has a really clear and strong voice to bring out the emotion behind the lyrics and it’s all accompanied with a collection of visuals featuring Kiritsugu Emiya and Irisviel.
1) Clannad~After Story Opening – Toki wo Kizamu Uta (LiA)
One of the best openings in anime in in my opinion. When I heard this in the first episode of After Story, it was like taking a breath of fresh air back in the anime world I loved so much. The opening is a rush of bright lights and as the scenes pan through the city and introduce the different characters, you just get the feeling that there is something magical about Clannad. The opening of After Story is SO nostalgic and you get feels just from watching it.
Honourable Mention (technically #11)
Uta no Prince-Sama 1000% Opening – Orpheus (Mamoru Miyano) [I couldn’t fit ten in the end and it ended up being eleven so this is sort of my way of cheating around the top 10 list… what? there are too many good songs to choose from >.< the list actually started off as a top 5 list and top 5 was even harder.]
“Sing your song. Even when we’re apart we can understand. “Hear my wind. There is only one sky that connects us two…”
Orpheus is a really beautiful and powerful song about music and love. It’s sung by my all-time favourite singer and seiyuu Mamoru Miyano. If you’ve ever seen Mamo perform the song on stage, he is absolutely phenomenal with it. There’s something really mysterious and poetic about the lyrics that I can’t really explain. It’s one of those songs that keep growing on you the more you listen to it.
So there you have it, my top 10 favourite openings and endings. I know I left out a bunch of really great songs in general. Here’s an extra list of other openings and endings I really love.
– Shingeki no Kyojin Opening 1 – Guren no Yumiya (Linked Horizon)
– Shingeki no Kyojin Ending – Utsukushiki Zankoku na Sekai (Yoko HIkasa)
– No Game No Life Opening 1 – This Game (Konomia Suzuki)
– Karneval Opening – Henai no Rondo (GRANRODEO)
– Kyoukai no Kanata Ending – Daisy (Stereo Drive Foundation)
I hope you guys found something interesting to listen to from this post and I hope you enjoyed reading it cause I had a lot of fun writing it. Let me know what your favourites are in the comments or link me to your video or post on your blog, I’m always looking for new music to listen to! ^_^
What are you pondering today?
I use to think that I handled stress really well because I’m the sort of person that never procrastinates, manages time well and always keeps on top of work…. that was until my grades in one course started to drop because of my assignments and everything went sort of downhill from there. The stress of grades and the rigid schedule left me no time to relax and slim opportunities for creative outlet periods. I had a nervous breakdown, broke out with acne, my ears started ringing and I was just not sleeping well or eating well. On top of that, living on your own means managing your chores and house as well. The only thing that gave me any semblance of distraction from the stress was really blogging.
I experimented with a lot of different relaxation techniques in the past three to four weeks and these are honestly the best ones that work for me as an anime-loving, manga-reading otaku blogger. If you identify with any of these labels, then these might work for you too.
5) Turn off your phone, hide your textbooks and grab your tablet or your laptop and read your manga. I don’t mean power read that latest chapter to catch up and then go back to work, I mean shut yourself off from everything else in your life and marathon at least twenty chapters of it. If you’re the type of person who goes on long periods of study time to cram and crack down on your course work, make sure you set an equal amount of time where you just binge read something that is not study material. When you’re studying, you are consciously working your brain to make connections and memorize facts, reading something for leisure that requires little to no brainpower that actually entertains you will help you sleep better. Whether you’re re-reading those fifty plus volumes of Naruto or something totally new suggested to you by a manga hosting site, visuals rather than chunks of text will significantly unwind your mind.
4) Exercise your other senses. When you’re studying, you’re mostly straining your eyes and this can leave you with dizziness, fatigue or even a migraine. Whether you go out and exercise your entire body, or you lie on your couch just listening to music or you just do a face mask for twenty minutes or even going out for a Starbucks snack, I’ve found that a great way to de-stress is to do other activities that allow other sensations to overwhelm your mind so that you’re not thinking.
3) Go to your favourite otaku online store and do some browsing or shopping. For those of you who enjoy collecting figures or merchandise, you’d be surprised at how therapeutic shopping can be. You’ll get really excited and start fangirling over new figures coming out and fangirling is probably one of the easiest ways to let all that pent up stress out. Naturally you shouldn’t splurge and go off budget, but a little pre-order item you know that will be delivered to your house when your exams finish, is a real treat to look forward to.
2) Find a video game to play. I don’t care if it’s the original 8bit red version of Pokemon or 3DS Mario Kart, World of Warcraft or League of Legends. I personally like Cytus, a music app on my phone, and Osu, a music rhythm game on my laptop. You’ll be surprised at how good it feels when you get a high score or when you’ve totally slayed an entire tribe of monsters. Gaming is an activity that dominates your mind and often, all your senses. It’s a great way to tune out of the world filled with worries and into a world filled with fairies.
1) Talk to someone. This sounds so cheesy, but I honestly think that talking about it and ranting about your problems is both mentally and emotionally beneficial. When you’re locked up in your room with only textbooks and notes, you’ll panic and worry, then you’ll find yourself googling and self-diagnosing your headaches or migraines and trust me, the internet is THE WORSE place for self-help. Seriously, go talk to a friend, you will be so surprised at how much you realized you were freaking out for nothing when you have someone close to you tell you IT’S GOING TO BE OKAY. And seriously, IT WILL BE OKAY. I slept over at a friend’s house this week because of some apartment problems I was having and I realized right before I fell asleep that I felt so much more lighthearted after hanging out with my best friends for a whole night.
Seriously though, DO NOT PANIC. NEVER PANIC. This stress will pass, these unhealthy bodily symptoms will pass and you will pass your exams if you’ve given your all. University and College exam month is probably one of the most stressful times of the year but at the end of the day, your health is way more important. The most important thing to remember is to breathe deeply when you think you’re about to explode or implode from the anxiety. Just breath, and you’ll get through it. Don’t overdo it, get enough sleep, eat well and good luck to everyone on their finals!
