Cloudy’s Fall 2015 Anime Favourites

Hello everyone, how have you been?

It’s been almost two weeks since I’ve done reviews and really, this absence wasn’t intentional. I moved to a new apartment, started a new school year, flew across the world for family and fought jet lag for an entire two weeks. I’m back now and it seems like despite the jam-packed nature of my day to day schedule, the anime world moves on… which brings me to my next point…

The Fall season is always one of the most anticipated season. For fans who really slogged through summer with many of its slow-paced slice of life and plethora of romance anime, action and mecha fans will rejoice to hear of all the newly adapted series from this season and really there are A LOT of them. Today I’ll be introducing some of my favourite anime selections. The ones I’ll be spotlighting are the select series that I particularly take an interest in, if you’re looking for a more comprehensive list of everything you’ll have better luck checking out something like Ani-chart for an entire run-down of new releases. No anime fan can watch everything or would want to watch everything. For me, I stick a lot to fantasy, action, romance and slice of life and while there four genres are my preferred and comfortable range of series, there’s two or three more suspenseful mystery anime or completely unique series that I’m immensely interested in. That being said, I will dip my toes into episode one of almost all new releases and first impressions posts will be published accordingly. Now that that’s out of the way, let’s… get… started…

[As always, my most anticipated series are at the top of the list while others will be listed alphabetically. Also, an extra smaller list of anime series will be listed in the recommendations section at the bottom of this post.]

K Project Return of KingsK: Return of Kings (Season 2)- THE HIGHLY ANTICIPATED SECOND SEASON OF K PROJECT IS FINALLY BACK!!!!!! Now if you’re into supernatural action and gorgeous animation you’ll want to check out the First season of K Project which released back in 2012. Since then the franchise has really taken off with a movie and otome game subsequently released after season one. The world follows different groups ruled by “Kings” who possess supernatural powers who vie for power within modern day Japan. While the first season follows the mystery of the “missing King” and the memories of Isana Shiro, the second season picks up pretty immediately after the pseudo-concluded storyline of season one. The K movie released later on, served as a minor interjection and bridge between the two seasons and the Red and Blue Kings are once again brought together in season two when disruptions bubble up around the city concerning the Green. With voices such as Kenjirou Tsuda, Daisuke Ono and Mamoru Miyano reprising their roles fans will be ecstatic for more of this exciting and mysterious story.

(As of right now I’ve seen the first episode and the animation is JAW-DROPPINGLY STUNNING)

Release Date: Oct 3, 2015

Osomatsu-sanOsomatsu-san (おそ松さん)- Osomatsu-san is actually one of my most anticipated new anime series. At first glance the art seems rather simplistic and reminiscent of childhood anime series reminiscent of Chibi Maruko-chan and Crayon Shin-chan however the genre is mainly shonen and its over the top comedy will largely appeal to the male demographic. What intrigued me about the series was the vibrant colours and dynamic designs of the poster. The promotional video is engaging and fast-paced and the new adaptation of such an old series (its manga originally published in the 60s and 80s), is the stunning A+ veteran cast comprising the voices and talents of Jun Fukuyama, Yuuichi Nakamura, Kamiya Hiroshi, Daisuke Ono, Kenichi Suzumura, Miyu Irino and Takahiro Sakurai who all have great chemistry from previous series. Osomatsu-san is MUST WATCH!!

Release Date: Oct 6, 2015

The Comet LuciferComet Lucifer (コメット・ルシファ)- One of the rare new gems of the anime world is Comet Lucifer, a new series produced by 8-Bit which falls into the fantasy and mecha genres. It takes place in a futuristic world called Gift where beautiful crystals called Giftium are develop deep within the earth. Sogo Amagi is an average boy who comes from a town called Garden Indigo which thrives off of the mining industry. He ends up wandering into the mines and discovers an underground lake where he meets a mysterious girl… This fresh new anime comes with a fresh new cast starring Yuusuke Kobayashi and Ayaka Ohashi as the two leads. It’ll be interesting to see their chemistry develop.

Release Date: Oct 4, 2015

Concrete RevolutioConcrete Revolutio: Choujin Gensou (コンクリート・レボルティオ~超人幻想~)- Right off the get go the colourful art grabs your eye. The production studio is diverse. The cast is curious. Most recently, we’ve seen Bones bring us shows like Akagami no Shirayuki and Kekkai Sensen. Now this season Bones will be producing the second season of Noragami as well adapting an action-packed manga series with story by Shou Aikawa and art by Nylon. Concrete Revolutio takes place in different version of Japan were superhumans from all avenues mingle and mix in this strange new era. With so many superhumans and super abilities, there’s bound to be trouble. Cue in the Superhuman Bureau whose mission is to manage and protect superhumans so that they might coincide peacefully.

Release Date: Oct 4, 2015

Diabolik Lovers More BloodDiabolik Lovers More Blood (Season 2)- Ah… with the train wreck finale that ended the first season of Diabolik Lovers it’s curious as to how and why production studios were given another chance to adapt this reverse-harem game into an anime. With only twelve to fifteen minutes per week it seems difficult for an anime adaptation to properly shed light on each of the characters (not to mention their mysterious and often traumatic back stories). Nevertheless, Yui Komori is back with a new group of cute-girl loving vampire pretty boys for another round of snack time.

Release Date: Sept 24, 2015

Gakusen Toshi AsteriskGakusen Toshi Asterisk (学戦都市アスタリスク)- Gakuen Toshi Asterisk happens to be one of the earlier releases this season and at the time of this post I have indeed watched the first episode… on a whim, I might say but I enjoyed it nonetheless. I have to say that this series begins with a much more complex world premise than usual and reminds me a bit of magic academies such as that of Mahouka Koukou no Rettousei and Mahou Sensou though not nearly as technical as the former nor as convoluted and sidetracked as the latter.

The series takes place on an island named Asterisk at an academy called Seidoukan Academy which basically trains the new generation students to fight for supremacy against one another and between the six famous schools at a yearly tournament called Festas which attracts huge worldwide reception. Our awkward and somewhat uncertain character Ayato Amagiri has recently transferred to Seidoukan on a scholarship. He ends up meeting the beautiful and fiery Princess Julis-Alexia von Riessfelt among other interesting characters… and school life goes on.

Release Date: Oct 3, 2015

KowabonKowabon (こわぼん)- Kowabon has one of the most interesting promotional videos I’ve ever seen. It takes live action and turns it into animation, featuring a story that has a horror and paranoia kind of theme. The website is vague and the teasers are even more mysterious but if you’re into something new and eclectic, definitely check this one out.

Release Date: Oct 4, 2015

Owari no Seraph NagoyaOwari no Seraph: Nagoya Kessen-hen (Season 2) (終わりのセラフ: 名古屋決戦編)- The first little arc of Owari no Seraph as seen from the Spring season was not enough to satisfy fans and left EVERYONE on a cliff-hanger. Owari no Seraph takes place in a fantasy-apocalyptic world where vampires and humans battle against each other. Humans contract demons in order to wield weapons powerful enough to slay vampires and one boy, Yuuichirou Hyakuya (after a long back story) ends up joining the army against the vampires while his childhood friend Mikaela Hyakuya ends up on the side of the vampires (again due to a long back story). Trust me, that wasn’t a spoiler because if you read the manga, it’s all revealed in the blink of an eye. If you’re interested in checking out season two you’ll definitely need to catch up on previous material or power through the twelve episode of season one. A later release date means you’ve still got a few days to catch up! And without question all voice actors are returning for their characters and hopefully season two will pick up in pace.

Release Date: Oct 10, 2015

SakurakoSakurako-san no Ashimoto ni wa Shitai ga Umatteiru (櫻子さんの足下には死体が埋まっている)-  With a long-winded title that translate to “A Corpse is Buried under Sakurako’s Feet” this anime series has arguably the most intriguing premise of the season. Judging from the name you can already tell that this series falls under mystery. The story follows a bow named Shoutarou Tatewaki who meets a girl named Sakurako Kujou who has the ability to analyze bones and discern clues. As a result the two team up to solve mysteries around the city… To be honest it reminds me a little bit of Gosick but with less Lolita frills and a much more detailed art style and more grounded story-telling. The animation is quite aesthetically pleasing to say the least. Average cast all around.

Release Date: Oct 8, 2015

Shingeki Kyojin SchoolShingeki! Kyojin Chuugakkou (進撃!巨人中学校)- Fans of the popular Shingeki no Kyojin apocalyptic action shonen anime series will be excited to see their favourite characters chibi-fied and placed in an Attack on Titan middle school. This spin-off series doesn’t take itself too seriously (despite the impending doom of giant man-eating monsters) and serves as great light-hearted and endearing material for fans of the originally dark franchise to kick back and enjoy.

Release Date: Oct 4, 2015

Subete ga F ni NaruSubete ga F ni Naru (すべてがFになる THE PERFECT INSIDER)- The Perfect Insider- Adapted from an original mystery light novel by Hiroshi Mori published way back in 1996, another adaptation for this popular story is out this time in an animated medium. The story follows a professor named Souhei Saikawa who will team up with Moe Nishinosono to solve a murder case. For those interested in reading other adaptations you can check out the stand-alone manga or Japanese television drama recently released last year with a total of ten episodes. This season, Subete ga F in Naru will be animated and produced by A-1 Pictures and will feature the voices of Ibuki Kido, Atsumi Tanezaki and Yasuyuki Kase in the three main roles with voices such as Yui Horie, Yoko Hikasa and Tatsuhisa Suzuki in the plethora of supporting roles. With so much popular history in the entertainment world, this story is definitely worth checking out.

Cloudy’s Spring Anime Season Rundown (2015)

Hey guys how are you all, I am so eager to get into the spring season of anime because winter has been dragging on WAY too long. The winter anime releases weren’t as strong and the big series from the Fall season have ended so spring is truly bringing LittleCloudCuriosity to a new start this anime season. There are so many great shows I’m looking forward to this season. I’ll be watching a lot more than the ones featured here but below you’ll find the highlight reel of what I am most looking forward to. As always, I’m open to any and all suggestions from you guys and I’ll be watching at least one episode from each new show for first impressions posts.

Since there are really SO MANY upcoming anime, I’ve decided to divide my favourite into categories. Tier 1 will encompass my absolute favourites, shows that I will absolutely be reviewing weekly and producing first impression vlogs for. Tier 2 will encompass new shows of which reviews and vlogs are pending.

**Please keep in mind that the listed release dates are regular broadcasting release dates. Many pilot episodes will be screened in Japan at theaters and other events earlier in the last week of March 2015

First Tier Faves

…Well now that that’s over with, let’s get to the intro…

Uta no Prince-sama is picking up again for an all new season back with all our favourite princes, heroine and voice actors, complete with all new character designs and ALL. NEW. SONGS. I am absolute ECSTATIC for the continuation of this anime. Since this season is picking up after the conclusion of subsequent seasons, I will advise new fans to check out season one or two of the series (OR PLAY THE GAMES) before you dip your toes into season 3. Producer by A-1 Pictures, the animation will surely not disappoint.

Fate Stay Night Unlimited Blade Works Season 2Fate/Stay Night Unlimited Blade Works (Second Half)- FATEEEEEEEEE STAYYYYYYY NIGHTTTTT ISSSSS BACKKKKKKKK… The first part of the season concluded in the fall season and the second half of Unlimited Blade Works has been HIGHLY ANTICIPATED. Release Date: April 5, 2015

Nisekoi Season 2 BNisekoi Season 2 (ニセコイ)- THE HEAD TILTS ARE BACK YO. I just KNEW Nisekoi would be back for a second season. Season one was so fantastic and ended on such a romantic note that I have been reading the manga and anticipating more sinec the first season concluded last spring. Nisekoi follows a boy named Raku Ichijo who made a promise with his childhood friend. After exchange a lock and a key, Raku has grown up wondering and longing to find the girl he made the promise with. The first season introduced us to most of the girls in this comedy-romance-high school setting but season two will bring even more exciting female characters to the screen. If you guys are looking for a feel of the series, check out my previous posts here. #TeamChitoge #TeamOnodera #TeamMarika #TeamTsumugu #TeamHaru #TeamRuri

Release Date: April 10, 2015

Owari no Seraph_Seraph of the EndOwari no Seraph (終わりのセラフ)- Ahhh, Owari no Seraph is the one series that isn’t a continuation of an already established anime fandom, but a new anime adapted from a manga series serialized by Shonen Jump. The original series is by written by Takaya Kagami and illustrated by Yamato Yamamoto. The plot follows a boy named Yuuichirou Hyakuya whose goal is to eradicate all the vampires that a virus on earth has created. It’s like a vampire-hunter coming of age story with TONS of action. I highly recommend checking out the manga beforehand. Studio Wit will be picking up this shonen, supernatural, drama-charged story working with voice actors such as Miyu Irino, Kensho Ono, Yuuichi Nakamura, Takahiro Sakurai and Sasori Hayami, just to name a few.

They’ve got pretty stellar voice actors lined up for the supporting roles as well.

Release Date: April 4, 2015

Second Tier Picks

Ame-iro CocoaAme-Iro Cocoa (雨色ココア)- Initially I skipped over this series but was drawn back into it when I saw that MAMORU MIYANO is part of the main cast. The series features a cute group of bishounen boys in their college years set in a coffee shop scene. What more do you want, girls? Just kidding. Not much is known about the series because the PV is pretty vague. It really only gives us a glimpse of the character designs but this is one of those series I’ll be horribly biased to checking out because of the super experienced veteran cast including Hikaru Midorikawa, Hiro Shimono, Ryo Horikawa and Daisuke Hirakawa in addition to Miyano.

Release Date: April 5, 2015

Arslan SenkiArslan Senki(アルスラーン戦記)- Arslan Senki is a great new anime for fans of fantasy, historical and political kingdom stories. It basically follows a prince named Arslan from a prosperous and powerful kingdom. After a devastating war, Arslan must now find a way to reclaim his kingdom.

To be honest I’m surprised the series is getting another adaptation but the much older adaptation aired in the late 90s in six OVA episodes so it’ll be nice to see this classic kingdom story get another interpretation with a fresh set of animators especially since it’s being produced as the collaboration between Liden Films and the Sanzigen Animation Studio.

Release Date: April 4, 2015

Digimon Adventure TriDigimon Adventure Tri. (デジモンアドベンチャーtri)– While I did grow up with Pokemon and have a strong appreciation for the franchise, my heart truly lies with Digimon and now we’re hitting Digimon’s FIFTEENTH YEAR ANNIVERSARY!!!! *cries* I’m so ecstatic for this new adaptation, I want to go back and high-five my eight year old self through the time space continuum because this is the generation of characters I grew up with. Now, the kids have grown up and they’re r-viewing the Digi-World in their high school days. I just love the original Digimon Adventure so much. I really hope the new animation and storytelling does justice to the classic styles of the world.

Release Date: April 2015

Dungeon ni Deai wo Motomeru no wa Machigatteiru no Darou kaDungeon ni Deai wo Motomeru no wa Machigatteiru no Darou ka? (ダンジョンに出会いを求めるのは間違っているのだろうか)In the city of Orario, is the gateway to a huge labyrinth known as “The Dungeon.” Situated underground, it is a strange and mysterious place that attracts hopes and fantasies of all sorts. Enter a boy named Bell Cranel with a thirst for adventure and a little goddess girl named Hestia who are both question in search of something…

To be honest I’m pretty hyped for this anime and it was really close to being grouped into the First Tier of series because the manga series is so compelling to read. The original story is written by Fujino Oomori and illustrated by Kunieda. Both the J.C. Staff and Genco will be picking up the animation and working with voices of Inori Minase and Yoshitsugu Matsuoka as the lead characters. I’m eager to see a fairly new female voice actor work with a fairly experienced male voice actor. Hopefully there’s enough chemistry to draw out the romantic elements of the story. Matusoka seems like a definite good pick when it comes to adventuring-hero protagonists due to his work as Kirito on Sword Art Online and Arata in Arata Kangatari. Check out my first impressions of the manga here.

Release Date: April 4, 2015

EtotamaEtotama (えとたま)- Do you like cute animal-human amalgamations? Adorable and colourful animation? Now here’s a slice of life that you’ll want to check out. With so many hard-hitting season two releases and so many epic fantasy new series, Etotama seems like a refreshing and spunky change in pace. The story follows a girl named Nya-tan, the poor little cat who was left out of the Chinese zodiac. According to Chinese mythology, the cat fell into the river towards the end of the race which is why she never made it to the finish line and was not included in the Chinese zodiac. In this anime, Nya-tan ends up meeting a boy named Takeru Tendo who lives alone in Akihabara. The premise is straightforward and the set-up makes for lots of fun comedy and slice of life as Nya-tan strives to achieve her goal. Nya-tan will be voice by the lovely Rie Murakawa and the male protagonist by Hiro Shimono both of which have ample experience previously in similar voice roles.

Release Date: April 9, 2015

Hibike EuphoniumHibike! Euphonium (響け!ユーフォニアム)- I’m hugely impressed by Hibike’s gumption in this upcoming line of releases. With Uta no Prince-sama utterly dominating the music genre and its huge fandom support for its absolutely stunning line of voice actors and singers, Hibike Euphonium will have A LOT of live up to in its genre. Don’t forget, we’ve also seen intensely emotional music series such as Shigatsu wa Kimi no Uso as well as fun and popular idol series like iDOLM@STER conclude in the previous season. It’ll be refreshing to see a big animation company throw their two cents into the genre when the anime music scene is so popular.

Seeing as the target audience of both shows is generally different, Hibike Euphonium will have some leeway for popularity. Brought to you by Kyoto Animation, previously responsible for another very popular music-high school series called K-On!, Hibike Euphonium revolves around a girl named Kumiko Oumae, who had an unpleasant incident with her middle school brass band club. Nevertheless, she resolves to join the brass band club in high school and runs into an old classmate…

KyotoAni is working with a whole new line of female voice actors in its main group of girls but side characters also include voices of Takahiro Sakurai, Minori Chihara and others so I’m pretty excited for this one. I’ve missed KyotoAni.

Release Date: April 8, 2015

Houkago no PleaidesHoukago no Pleiades (放課後のプレアデス)- Oh after all the hilarity from Binan Koukou Chikyuu Bouei-bu and the panicked screams from class magic girl fans, the genre is yet another magical girls series loosely translated as Afterschool Pleaiades which follows a group of five girls (whose character designs strangely resemble the colours from Madoka Magica’s girls). Subaru, Itsuki, Nanako, Hikaru and Aoi form an after school club that works to help a little creature/alien from Pleiades, return home. To be honest, this reminds me A LOT of Sora no Method from the Fall season but I am willing to give the show the benefit of the doubt… well, until at least the third episode.

Release Date: April 10, 2015

Kekkai SensenKekkai Sensen(血界戦線)- Kekkai Sensen is really different from my usual palette and comfortable range of genres but I am willing to give this show a chance because of its compelling synopsis breakdown. The story begins in New York where humans and netherworld creatures have been trapped together due to a rupture between the two worlds. Now someone is threatening to destroy this delicate balance so a group of superhumans have been assembled to deal with the threat. Recommended for mature audiences and animated by Studio Bones, this series falls into categories of action, fantasy, supernatural and seinen. It also happens to be one of the early releases to open the season.

Release Date: April 5, 2015

Mikagura Gakuen KumikyokuMikagura Gakuen Kumikyoku (ミカグラ学園組曲)- I wavered a bit with including or excluding this show from the line up but the vibrant poster design and the fast-paced snappy animation in the PV has really grabbed my attention for this show. The story is based on a set of light novels based on yet another set of songs from the creative world of Vocaloid. Considering how well-received Mekaku City Actors was received by its pre-existing fanbase, Mikagura Gakuen Kumikyoku will surely deliver with its catchy music and quirky character designs; brought to you by Doga Kobo and Media Factory with a pretty big cast of seiyuu including Yoshimasa Hosoya, Nobunaga Shimazaki, Yothisugu Matsuoka and Natsuki Hanae just to name a few.

Release Date: April 7, 2015

Plastic MemoriesPlastic Memories (プラスティック・メモリーズ)- Wow, Plastic Memories’ first PV brings quite a few feels to the forefront of your mind with a quiet piano ballad intro and a sweetly nostalgic voice singing along. The series is listed under sci-fi but I get the feeling that there will be hints of love and drama between the characters. The second PV is much more telling of the gorgeous animation and the look of the characters. The story takes place in a futuristic world where humans and androids co-exist. A company called SA Corp produces a new android that is capable of emotion. The series takes an old trope and reworks it into a new world structure where a “terminal service” has been created in order to deal with emotional androids, called Giftia, who are past their time…

I feel so much emotional hype from the PVs alone.

Release Date: April 5, 2015

Re-Kan!Re-Kan! (レーカン!)- Based on a 4-Koma panel manga series written and illustrated by Seta Hinako, the story revolves around a girl named Amami Hibiki who can perceive ghosts and other supernatural entities around her. She and her friends get into a quite a bit of mischief with the supernatural world. This series is brought to you by Pierrot Plus and falls into genres of comedy, school and seinen. The animation and character designs look pretty solid. I’m also really attracted to the show’s music style from the bits of score and song we get in the PVs so I’ll be looking out for this one as well.

Release Date: April 3, 2015

So we have a HUGE line up of new shows and season two hard-hitters for spring. I can’t express to you guys how utterly excited I am for the spring season after all the shows that lagged in the previous season. This time I’ve decided to include the poll with this post all at once. If you see a show you’d like to see First Impressions, weekly reviews or vlogs for, please vote in the poll below. If you don’t see your favourites, leave the series names in poll as well and I will definitely check those out. Thank you guys so much for reading and I will talk to you all very soon =)
