Cloudy’s Fall 2015 Anime Favourites

Hello everyone, how have you been?

It’s been almost two weeks since I’ve done reviews and really, this absence wasn’t intentional. I moved to a new apartment, started a new school year, flew across the world for family and fought jet lag for an entire two weeks. I’m back now and it seems like despite the jam-packed nature of my day to day schedule, the anime world moves on… which brings me to my next point…

WELCOME TO THE FALL SEASON OF ANIME!!!

The Fall season is always one of the most anticipated season. For fans who really slogged through summer with many of its slow-paced slice of life and plethora of romance anime, action and mecha fans will rejoice to hear of all the newly adapted series from this season and really there are A LOT of them. Today I’ll be introducing some of my favourite anime selections. The ones I’ll be spotlighting are the select series that I particularly take an interest in, if you’re looking for a more comprehensive list of everything you’ll have better luck checking out something like Ani-chart for an entire run-down of new releases. No anime fan can watch everything or would want to watch everything. For me, I stick a lot to fantasy, action, romance and slice of life and while there four genres are my preferred and comfortable range of series, there’s two or three more suspenseful mystery anime or completely unique series that I’m immensely interested in. That being said, I will dip my toes into episode one of almost all new releases and first impressions posts will be published accordingly. Now that that’s out of the way, let’s… get… started…

[As always, my most anticipated series are at the top of the list while others will be listed alphabetically. Also, an extra smaller list of anime series will be listed in the recommendations section at the bottom of this post.]

K Project Return of KingsK: Return of Kings (Season 2)- THE HIGHLY ANTICIPATED SECOND SEASON OF K PROJECT IS FINALLY BACK!!!!!! Now if you’re into supernatural action and gorgeous animation you’ll want to check out the First season of K Project which released back in 2012. Since then the franchise has really taken off with a movie and otome game subsequently released after season one. The world follows different groups ruled by “Kings” who possess supernatural powers who vie for power within modern day Japan. While the first season follows the mystery of the “missing King” and the memories of Isana Shiro, the second season picks up pretty immediately after the pseudo-concluded storyline of season one. The K movie released later on, served as a minor interjection and bridge between the two seasons and the Red and Blue Kings are once again brought together in season two when disruptions bubble up around the city concerning the Green. With voices such as Kenjirou Tsuda, Daisuke Ono and Mamoru Miyano reprising their roles fans will be ecstatic for more of this exciting and mysterious story.

(As of right now I’ve seen the first episode and the animation is JAW-DROPPINGLY STUNNING)

Osomatsu-sanOsomatsu-san (おそ松さん)- Osomatsu-san is actually one of my most anticipated new anime series. At first glance the art seems rather simplistic and reminiscent of childhood anime series reminiscent of Chibi Maruko-chan and Crayon Shin-chan however the genre is mainly shonen and its over the top comedy will largely appeal to the male demographic. What intrigued me about the series was the vibrant colours and dynamic designs of the poster. The promotional video is engaging and fast-paced and the new adaptation of such an old series (its manga originally published in the 60s and 80s), is the stunning A+ veteran cast comprising the voices and talents of Jun Fukuyama, Yuuichi Nakamura, Kamiya Hiroshi, Daisuke Ono, Kenichi Suzumura, Miyu Irino and Takahiro Sakurai who all have great chemistry from previous series. Osomatsu-san is MUST WATCH!!

Release Date: Oct 6, 2015

The Comet LuciferComet Lucifer (コメット・ルシファ)- One of the rare new gems of the anime world is Comet Lucifer, a new series produced by 8-Bit which falls into the fantasy and mecha genres. It takes place in a futuristic world called Gift where beautiful crystals called Giftium are develop deep within the earth. Sogo Amagi is an average boy who comes from a town called Garden Indigo which thrives off of the mining industry. He ends up wandering into the mines and discovers an underground lake where he meets a mysterious girl… This fresh new anime comes with a fresh new cast starring Yuusuke Kobayashi and Ayaka Ohashi as the two leads. It’ll be interesting to see their chemistry develop.

Release Date: Oct 4, 2015

Concrete RevolutioConcrete Revolutio: Choujin Gensou (コンクリート・レボルティオ~超人幻想~)- Right off the get go the colourful art grabs your eye. The production studio is diverse. The cast is curious. Most recently, we’ve seen Bones bring us shows like Akagami no Shirayuki and Kekkai Sensen. Now this season Bones will be producing the second season of Noragami as well adapting an action-packed manga series with story by Shou Aikawa and art by Nylon. Concrete Revolutio takes place in different version of Japan were superhumans from all avenues mingle and mix in this strange new era. With so many superhumans and super abilities, there’s bound to be trouble. Cue in the Superhuman Bureau whose mission is to manage and protect superhumans so that they might coincide peacefully.

Release Date: Oct 4, 2015

Diabolik Lovers More BloodDiabolik Lovers More Blood (Season 2)- Ah… with the train wreck finale that ended the first season of Diabolik Lovers it’s curious as to how and why production studios were given another chance to adapt this reverse-harem game into an anime. With only twelve to fifteen minutes per week it seems difficult for an anime adaptation to properly shed light on each of the characters (not to mention their mysterious and often traumatic back stories). Nevertheless, Yui Komori is back with a new group of cute-girl loving vampire pretty boys for another round of snack time.

Release Date: Sept 24, 2015

Gakusen Toshi AsteriskGakusen Toshi Asterisk (学戦都市アスタリスク)- Gakuen Toshi Asterisk happens to be one of the earlier releases this season and at the time of this post I have indeed watched the first episode… on a whim, I might say but I enjoyed it nonetheless. I have to say that this series begins with a much more complex world premise than usual and reminds me a bit of magic academies such as that of Mahouka Koukou no Rettousei and Mahou Sensou though not nearly as technical as the former nor as convoluted and sidetracked as the latter.

The series takes place on an island named Asterisk at an academy called Seidoukan Academy which basically trains the new generation students to fight for supremacy against one another and between the six famous schools at a yearly tournament called Festas which attracts huge worldwide reception. Our awkward and somewhat uncertain character Ayato Amagiri has recently transferred to Seidoukan on a scholarship. He ends up meeting the beautiful and fiery Princess Julis-Alexia von Riessfelt among other interesting characters… and school life goes on.

Release Date: Oct 3, 2015

KowabonKowabon (こわぼん)- Kowabon has one of the most interesting promotional videos I’ve ever seen. It takes live action and turns it into animation, featuring a story that has a horror and paranoia kind of theme. The website is vague and the teasers are even more mysterious but if you’re into something new and eclectic, definitely check this one out.

Release Date: Oct 4, 2015

Owari no Seraph NagoyaOwari no Seraph: Nagoya Kessen-hen (Season 2) (終わりのセラフ: 名古屋決戦編)- The first little arc of Owari no Seraph as seen from the Spring season was not enough to satisfy fans and left EVERYONE on a cliff-hanger. Owari no Seraph takes place in a fantasy-apocalyptic world where vampires and humans battle against each other. Humans contract demons in order to wield weapons powerful enough to slay vampires and one boy, Yuuichirou Hyakuya (after a long back story) ends up joining the army against the vampires while his childhood friend Mikaela Hyakuya ends up on the side of the vampires (again due to a long back story). Trust me, that wasn’t a spoiler because if you read the manga, it’s all revealed in the blink of an eye. If you’re interested in checking out season two you’ll definitely need to catch up on previous material or power through the twelve episode of season one. A later release date means you’ve still got a few days to catch up! And without question all voice actors are returning for their characters and hopefully season two will pick up in pace.

Release Date: Oct 10, 2015

SakurakoSakurako-san no Ashimoto ni wa Shitai ga Umatteiru (櫻子さんの足下には死体が埋まっている)-  With a long-winded title that translate to “A Corpse is Buried under Sakurako’s Feet” this anime series has arguably the most intriguing premise of the season. Judging from the name you can already tell that this series falls under mystery. The story follows a bow named Shoutarou Tatewaki who meets a girl named Sakurako Kujou who has the ability to analyze bones and discern clues. As a result the two team up to solve mysteries around the city… To be honest it reminds me a little bit of Gosick but with less Lolita frills and a much more detailed art style and more grounded story-telling. The animation is quite aesthetically pleasing to say the least. Average cast all around.

Release Date: Oct 8, 2015

Shingeki Kyojin SchoolShingeki! Kyojin Chuugakkou (進撃!巨人中学校)- Fans of the popular Shingeki no Kyojin apocalyptic action shonen anime series will be excited to see their favourite characters chibi-fied and placed in an Attack on Titan middle school. This spin-off series doesn’t take itself too seriously (despite the impending doom of giant man-eating monsters) and serves as great light-hearted and endearing material for fans of the originally dark franchise to kick back and enjoy.

Subete ga F ni NaruSubete ga F ni Naru (すべてがFになる THE PERFECT INSIDER)- The Perfect Insider- Adapted from an original mystery light novel by Hiroshi Mori published way back in 1996, another adaptation for this popular story is out this time in an animated medium. The story follows a professor named Souhei Saikawa who will team up with Moe Nishinosono to solve a murder case. For those interested in reading other adaptations you can check out the stand-alone manga or Japanese television drama recently released last year with a total of ten episodes. This season, Subete ga F in Naru will be animated and produced by A-1 Pictures and will feature the voices of Ibuki Kido, Atsumi Tanezaki and Yasuyuki Kase in the three main roles with voices such as Yui Horie, Yoko Hikasa and Tatsuhisa Suzuki in the plethora of supporting roles. With so much popular history in the entertainment world, this story is definitely worth checking out.

Cloudy’s Summer Anime 2015 Line-Up

Ahhhh~ This will be the third summer of anime I will be covering since I started Little Cloud Curiosity. Usually summer holds some of my most anticipated anime but it seems like most of my hype ended with the conclusion of previous spring season series such as Fate/Stay Night Unlimited Blade Works and Nisekoi Season 2. I am however excited for a few new shows coming up this summer as well eagerly awaiting more episode from already established franchises. Now then, most you know my general taste judging from my previous reviews – a lot of fantasy, slice of life, romantic, action, epic… not too much gore, not too much blood and so on.  Now without further ado, allow me to introduce to you all the run-down of my anime line up this month…

KALMIAFate/Kaleid Liner Prisma Illya 2wei Herz!! (プリズマ☆イリヤ ツヴァイ ヘルツ!) – AHHHHHH This is my most anticipated series for the summer!! I reviewed the first two season in previous seasons and I AM SO EXCITED FOR MORE ILYA. With the appearance of Kuro in 2wei, there are still so many unanswered questions to Ilya’s family story (ufufufu) and Miyu’s back story which is one of the most interesting parts of the series. Seriously this is one of the most fun and best spin-off worlds to come from the Fate world and I enjoy it immensely because it combines all the great elements of the Nasuverse with cutesy and enjoyable aspects of the magic girl genre.

Release Date: July 25, 2015

Chaos Dragon- Sekiryuu SenyakuChaos Dragon: Sekiryuu Senyaku (ケイオスドラゴン 赤竜戦役)I wasn’t a big fan of the premise because historical fictional action series aren’t usually as stimulating for my taste however the teaser looks so suspenseful and action charged. On top of that the animation is so vibrant and the colours so bold and the script features a pretty strong ensemble of immensely seasoned voice actors such as Unshou Ishizuka, Miyuki Sawashiro, Maaya Uchida and Marina Inoue.

The story focuses on a power conflict between two war-torn countries – Donatia and Kouran. With a plot that boasts the brains of Gen Urobochi, Kinoko Nasu, Iduki Kougyoku, Ryohgo Narita and Simadoriru, this light novel series is definitely hyped up for an action packed release. Anime fans who have been a bit bored from the slice of life and romance series from the Spring season will enjoy a new change in pace.

Release Date: July 2, 2015

Wooser no Sono Higurashi Mugen HenWooser no Sono Higurashi Mugen Hen (うーさーのその日暮らし 夢幻編) – Ahhh Wooser~~ I have anticipated more of this quirky and fun series since I watched the entire first two seasons in about two hours last summer. Wooser is a rather crass and blunt little mascot dog who gets into a bit of mischief every now and then. The main point of the story telling is on short gags and little skits where Wooser interacts with other characters. Fans of Japanese contemporary trends or anime might catch some of the references from anime series from the same producing company. What’s great about the series is that its dialogue ranges from absolute nonsense to jaded pieces of every day advice. The voice actors are absolutely A+ for this series with popular singer and seiyuu Mamoru Miyano heading the line-up as the beloved Wooser and Hiroshi Kamiya-sama as Darth Wooser.

Release Date: July 3, 2015

Akagami no Shirayuki-HimeAkagami no Shirayuki-Hime (赤髪の白雪姫) – Loosely translated as “Snow White with the Red-Hair” the promo video features a spunky and outgoing girl who, in order to escape marriage with a prince, cuts her hair and runs off to the next country. She goes on… a bit of an adventure and the plot mimics a bit the classical German fairy tale Snow White by the Brothers Grimm. It seems a bit generic but I’m usually willing to give anything within the fantasy genre a chance. As well, it’s always interesting to see what writers can do with fairy tale spin-off adaptations. The cast of main characters features one of my favourite voice actors ever – Nobuhiko Okamoto (Mikoto from Gekkan Shoujo Noazki-kun, Yoichi from Owari no Seraph and Shouta from Sekaiichi Hatsukoi).

Release Date: July 7, 2015

Charlotte AnimeCharlotte (シャーロット) – Oh P.A. Works we meet again with a new slice of life series named Charlotte. We’ve seen major mishaps with Glasslip but a major pick up since Shirobako in previous season. P.A. Works is probably my favourite company and has a tendency to pick up stories and series that really lean towards my taste as a result I will be checking out Charlotte which incorporates slice of life high school life with supernatural elements in each of the characters. Judging from the promo video, the music seems quite avant-garde off the get go but hits us hard with an emotional ballad towards the end.

Directed by Yoshiyuki Asai, who was also responsible for series such as Angel Beats and my personal favourite, Nagi no Asukara, Charlotte will feature a cast of voices we’ve seen in a ton of recent and popular anime series. Ayane Sakura (Yozora from Haganai, Shimakaze KanColle and Haru from Nisekoi), Maaya Uchida (Futaba from Ao Haru Ride, Rikka from Chuunibyou, Hyori from Noragami), Kouki Uchiyama (Seiya from Amagi Brilliant Park, Dio from Buddy Complex, Raku from Nisekoi), Takahiro Mizushima (Romeo from Romeo x Juliet and Haruki from White Album 2). There seems to be a lot of potential for a fast-paced series despite the slice of life tag. Oh I’m waiting for you to wrench my heart out Charlotte.

Release Date: July 5, 2015

Chu Feng BEEChu Feng: BEE-(雛蜂-BEE-) – Coming at you all this season is a new series adapted from a Chinese manhua originally written and drawn by Sun Heng. I’m not usually into ecchi but the story primarily falls into seinen, fantasy, mecha and action categories as well. The story follows a guy named Shun Hao Xuan who lives in a future generation. When he gets caught up in the arms race conflict and taken as hostage, a beautiful girl swoops in and happens to save him while she’s on mission. The girl – Liuli (voiced by the talented and stunning Kana Hanazawa), is the latest generation of the Vanguard, created from new engineering technologies. Her final mission before retirement is to protect the “Son of Eden.”

Sounds like an interesting premise overall. I really hope it gets fluid animation because the mecha aspects are really crucial to the flow of the story and there is a lot of combat so we need really smooth transitions and high quality animation art to get the mood of the futuristic world.

Release Date: July 23, 2015

Gate- Jieitai Kanochi nite, Kaku TatakeriGate: Jieitai Kanochi nite, Kaku Tatakeri (ゲート 自衛隊 彼の地にて、斯く戦えり) –This series initially caught my eye because of how much one of the characters on the poster reminded me of Sinon from Sword Art Online: Gun Gale Online. A-1 Pictures is really bringing their A-game this season. This new anime takes place in a future and alternate Tokyo where a “Gate” opened up in Ginza, heralding mobs of monsters into the city. The attack is met by the Japan Ground-Self Defence force and the story narrows in on a young officer named Youji Itami who leads a team to a number of different places. The plot seems to attempt to balance international political conflict with fantasy aspects while incorporating themes such as knowledge, friendship and perspective when it comes character interactions. Sounds like A LOT going on but at least animation will definitely be on par.

The cast is looking good with its main characters featuring seiyuu such as Risa Taneda (Mirai from Kyoukai no Kanata and Kaori from Shigatsu wa Kimi no Uso), Junichi Suwabe (Undertaker from Kuroshitsuji, Archer from Fate/Stay Night and Ren from Uta no Prince-sama), Hisako Kanemoto (Taiga from Fate/Zero and Ami Mizuno from Bishoujo Senshi Sailor Moon Crystal) and my new favourite, Nao Touyama (Chitoge from Nisekoi and Himiko from Nobunaga the Fool)

Makura no DanshiMakura no Danshi (まくらのだんし) – OMG WHY IS THIS GETTING AN ANIME =.=””” IT WAS ORIGINALLY AN APP… and it is SOOO ridiculously as an anime series concept. I can’t see how this could even be an anime. Basically… a cute anime boy stares at you and whispers things to you as you go to sleep. In every episode. I know. The anime industry. Japan. Why…

Release Date: July 14, 2015

Rokka no YushaRokka no Yusha (六花の勇者)Adapted from a light novel, I’m quite excited to check out this new fantasy series this season. It’s a relatively new series that’s only been out since 2011, written by Ishio Yamagata with illustrations by Miyagi. The story focuses on a boy named Adlet who was selected among the Heroes of the Six Flowers to be the strongest on Earth. He meets up with a band of other interesting characters, one of which is the enemy…

The series will be brought to you by Studio Passione, featuring a main cast of voices including Soma Saito, Yoko Hikasa, Aoi Yuki, Koki Uchiyama, Ai Kakuma, Rina Sato and Kenichi Suzumura; all in all a fairly stable cast of seiyuu. I virtually know nothing of the series except what I’ve seen in promotional media since I have a tendency to read light novels after their anime adaptations. Hopefully Rokka no Yusha will bring some much needed mystery fantasy elements into our lives this season.

Release Date: July 5, 2015

Working!!Working!! (ワーキング!!) – This cute new slice-of-life series by A-1 Pictures caught my eye last minute when I was scrolling through the summer chart releases. The story takes place specifically in Hokkaido, Japan called Wagnaria. A high schooler named Sota Takanashi ends up working part-time at a restaurant with a bunch of quirky and eccentric characters. The promotional video looks TOTALLY DERP but I suppose that’s what gives it its charm in this season’s line-up. The cast has some of the most notable voices in the industry, Daisuke Ono, Hiroshi Kamiya-sama, Jun Fukuyama, Jouji Nakata, Eri Kitamura, Kumiko Watanabe, Kana Asumi and many others.

Release Date: July 5, 2015

Junjou Romantica Season 3Junjou Romantica Season 3 (純情ロマンチカ) – AHHHH Yaoi and boys love fans will be thrilled for the latest anime adaptation of Nakamura Shungiku’s popular series, Junjou Romantica. Personally I like Sekaiichi Hatsukoi more because it has more lighthearted back story material versus Junjou Romantica which features more mature emotional content between the characters. However, I am a HUGE fan of Nakamura Shungiku’s art style and writing. Her humour is ON POINT. Junjou Romantica is also great for yaoi fans who want a lighter series for their taste as well as beginner readers who are looking to dip their toes into the genre.

The series follows three different couples but mainly a boy named Misaki Takahashi, who through his brother, ends up living with a famous author named Akihiko Usami (and becoming his lover in the process ahem*). The original cast is back of course with Takahiro Sakurai (as Misaki Takahashi), Hikaru Hanada (as Akihiko Usami), Kentaro Itou (as Hiroki Kamijou), Nobutoshi Canna (as Nowaki, Kusama), Kazuhiko Inoue (as You Miyagi) and Daisuke Kishio (as Shinobu Takatsuki). Studio Deen will be handling the animation.

Release Date: July 9, 2015

Also looking forward to checking out… Sora ga Seiyuu!, Himouto! Umaru-chan, Gangsta, Aoharu x Kikanjuu and Joukamachi no Dandelion

Thank you guys so much for reading, if you have time or feel so inclined, please take a moment to offer your vote in the poll, your opinion and votes really make a difference to which main series I follow on a weekly basis with blog recaps and contribute to the brainstorming process for new anime impression vlogs and series review.
